Wouldn't Life Be Easier If We All Used The Same Currency?

I don't mean just for MyLot but in general...worldwide. I mean, I'm from the UK and the exchange rate from US Dollars to "proper money" is ridiculous. Isn't it about time we all had the same currency? Not dollars. Not Pounds...something else..for everybody. Any ideas? Life would be a lot fairer!

It would be very nice, but can happen only if we have the same government. Maybe Global President is not bad idea, but humans are not ready for. Same money? we can not agree about the same god, global warming and freedom for females... Maybe the same currency for Europe and America? My idea is World without money. Just exchange, work for work, item per item...I am dreaming....

Yes,I'm sure there could be a way of us working without money. Quite radical plan this isn't it but we know it can work!

Hi friend It would be a nice idea. It would be easier for people to do business. The problem with it is that the adjustment would be tremendous. There are lots of considerations like the price of raw materials in every part of the world varies due to the cost of production. The fossil fuel as the life blood of transport and energy varies in price also due to the law of supply and demand. These diversities in culture, geography, etc. would make it hard for the people of the world to have the same currency. It is a great idea but a lot of change would be needed to make it a reality. Regards

I have a romantic idea of how the world should run...too simplistic isn't it? I'm wondering when this "currency" thing started in the first place? I'm glad the UK hasn't adopted the Euro if I'm being honest....but give 'em time! Thanks for the response by the way, it's much appreciated.

Isn't that the idea behind the Euro? As for what to call this new, universal currency... don't they call them credits in some science fiction stories? (Maybe I'm dreaming.)

Well, most of Europe has the Euro but there are countries that still don't have it, the UK included...and quite right too lol. There would be uproar if we got rid of our pound, it's what "identifies" us from the rest of Europe. I was surprised when Spain adopted the Euro. I think it was an excuse for them to put everything up (rather like the Republic of Ireland) so that's the only reason for adopting the Euro, in my opinion.

Oh yes, I believe that life would be a lot easier in that we wouldn't have to work out exchange rates etc. But all the people who make money out of different currencies, would object I think. But for ordinary folk like you and I here in the UK, it would be great. _Derek

Yes, especially with the Exchange Rate being as it is at the moment.

Whilst yes it would make life simpler when it came to money transactions across continents. The negative side effect of it is huge hitting, if one country was suffering with a poor economy the knock on effect would be much greater for a country with a strong economy, meaning that we would share more of the burden. Plus the only way it could theoretically happen is if we had a world wide presidency, something which will never happen because countries would not agree to it.

Not even President Blair hehe lol! I do know what you mean, in an ideal world it would be great but, unfortunately (like you said) the consequences for many countries would be dire. Why don't we just scrap money altogether? According to my hubby on the Star Trek paradise that is Earth they don't bother with it and just live together in perfect harmony. Makes you wonder why they have to explore the Galaxy lol! I'd stay put if that were the case!

Hello, Janey. It's never going to happen, because although, as you say, life would be fairer, it would also make it more difficult for us to be ripped off, so big business will never stand for it. Plus all these companies who make a fortune out of conversion charges would lose a significant income stream. When we bought in Spain almost 3 years ago, we enjoyed an exchange rate of almost 1.5 euros to the £. Now it's only 1.12, and as my husband's pension is paid in Sterling, we've seen a significant difference in our disposable income. If all Europe adopted the Euro, the playing field would be level, and we'd all be better off, but England won't, because then you could compare like with like, and everyone who didn't already realise it would see just how much people in the UK get ripped off.

Hi Jane, I also wished that currency be one and the same. If this will happen life will be simple. When i went to the US, i had difficulty converting peso to dollars and to my dismay knowing that it's quite expensive. so, i stop converting and just enjoy what i am earning...save it and send moeny to my family. same thing happened to me when i went to Thailand and Malaysia. We will all be happy.
