Hi friends, I have had problems to fall asleep since some years ago, everything started after I finish graduate school, while I was student, I had to spend a lot of nights with very little sleep, so after a while when I needed to sleep I couldn't, so right now I have done a lot of research and it looks like I really need to have a lifestyle change. What do you do in order to have a good night sleep?

Hi, laura. I too have my bouts of insomnia at times. Here are some things you can try which I have and seemed to work: ~Limit your daily intake of caffeine. ~take a warm bath just before bedtime ~drink a cup of decaffeinated chamomile tea ~scents like lavender, chamomile, and sandalwood promote relaxation. You can purchase these scents in essential oils which you can put on either yourself on your pulse points (wrists, temples, crook of your elbows) or you can put a few drops on the light bulb of your lamp in your bedroom (the heat of the bulb helps distribute the scent throughout the room) ~keeping the above relaxing scents in mind, you can also burn scented candles (just make sure to blow them out before you fall asleep!) ~a glass of warm milk also helps ~if you find you just cannot sleep no matter what you try, get up and read for a bit (something for pleasure like a novel or a magazine). Don't watch tv because it will just make you stay awake. I hope those tips help.

There are several things that may prove helpful in order to induce a good nights sleep. I tend to read, in bed if I am not able to fall asleep. Although I can slow my breathing so slow that I eventually fall asleep on my own. I have read that chamomile tea is helpful as are bananas. Recently I heard that cooling your forehead off with a cool cloth has proven helpful to aid in inducing sleep but so does oatmeal. Never drink anything with caffeine after 7p.m. if you want to fall asleep before midnight. Set the ambiance for sleep. A couple hours before bed, turn off the t.v. and computer. Light some nice candles, scented is good as well. Perhaps have a nice relaxing bath and begin to wind down. Sometimes sleeping in a different area of your place may help. My dad has trouble falling asleep as well so i am always interested in what is working for others.

To get to sleep I normally do some light reading, either in a book or online, that won't be too thought provoking. Then turn on some music and lay in bed. listen to the music with your eyes closed and eventually you will fall asleep. You can do this by watching tv too if you can set the timer to turn off after you fall asleep. If you still can fall asleep, do some more reading, walk around, or drink something warm. I hope this helps
