Do you have a recipe for hummus that does not use tahini?

I wanted to make some hummus but can't find any tahini... What can I use instead to give it the right taste? I am needing a recipe that uses dried garbanzo beans instead of canned ones. I would really appreciate your help.

If you can find it you can use sesame oil instead of tahini. I think you can just soak the beans overnight or a little longer to soften them up. The last time I made hummus I just used chick peas, olive oil, lots of garlic and a little cumin. The cumin added a nice flavor but it was still missing something.

I tried making it before with a little sesame oil and I think a little olive oil and peanut butter... I though had left some water in it and therefore found it end product to be rather runny. I had not used garlic or cumin... had never heard of using the cumin. Thanks for the tip.

i always make mine with dried beans. soak them overnight then rinse then and cook them- i microwave them until soft. chuck them in the blender with loads of garlic and lots of lemon juice. blend until you like the consistency. add olive oil and lots of cumin.

Thank you for that recipe... I had never thought of microing the garbanzo beans... thanks for that tip. Is the cumin ground already? My guess is yes... I appreciate your response.

Oh yes. I make one with my children using peanut butter. I use 1 can garbanzo beans, 1/2 cup smooth peanut butter, 3-5 tablespoons olive oil (I put them in one at a time until consistency we like) and blend up in blender. We make a few spice variations. For a sweet dip we add 1/8 cup honey and cinnamon (or a good chai spice blend or pumpkin pie spice) which we eat with pretzels, apples, pears and bananas. To this recipe we have added pumpkin from a can for the fall and caramel topping instead of honey, well we did it cause we ran out of honey but it was so good we did a few more times. We do another with garlic and soy sauce which I have to say goes great with chicken nuggets. We also do one with a clove of garlic and a small chili pepper, this one is spicy and sooo good. I love it as a lunch with just veggies to dip in it. Hope this helps.
