Best Medicine: Music or Laughter?

It's often said that laughter is the best medicine; but what about music? When I'm down or bored, music always cheers me up. Comedy is great too, but I really think that music works better as a mood enhancer. I guess a combination effect would be even better: a funny song. Which would you prefer to cheer you up?

If you combine those two you can have great musical. Live concert is the best, but yes, music can have immediate result for your mood. I am in my funny mood today and I am listening to music while searching on Internet. I love comedy and I am ready to watch good movie tonight, whatever I will find between my old DVD's...

If I'm in a bad mood music is usually the best. If someone tries to make me laugh when I'm mad I'll usually get even more mad. I guess I feel stubborn and don't want to be happy if I'm upset because I'm upset for a reason. Music calms me down and makes me cheer up.

What kind of music do you find works best to calm you down? Or if you're sad, what kind cheers you up? I find blues usually calms me down, but is no good in cheering me up. Sometimes I'll listen to some reggae to cheer me up (usually Bob Marley). Also, I find that if I'm feeling upset, that song by Bobby Mcferrin, "Don't Worry Be Happy" will cheer me up. (yeah, I know that's a really old song!)

Laughter is the best medicine, but that doesn't necessarily mean that it can lift you out of a mood. Laughter has been proven to make people healthier. It lowers blood pressure, relaxes tension, relieves stress and helps the digestive system do its work. Being healthy and being in a good mood are two different things.

music that makes you laugh? Just after reading the title i thought the same as you. Although i havent heard too many songs that are funny, except the ones that are parodies and a song called hocus pocus(focus) by Helloween, although this song can make you feel scared(lol it depends on the viewer i guess).

Lol i totally forgot about Tenacious D. I liked that movie although it was rather stupid(too stupid), haha. Love the last song when the guys challenge Beezelbooze(dunno how is written). My brother, a mutual friend, and me used to sing that song very often.

Yeah, parodies are fun (Weird Al), but there's other funny singers out there too. Jack Black (Tenacious D) has some pretty funny songs. So does Adam Sandler; I really like his Lunch Lady song! Sloppy Joe, sloppy, sloppy joe:-}

I feel that both lauphter and music walk hand in hand. In alot of situationsI have to have both to feel better. If I had to choose one or the other thought I would have to say music is my DOC I have to have music on constantly. It is almost like to music is part of me that gives energy to do the things I need to do.

Both. Being able to laugh(good laugh) when you have problems or if your in a bad mood makes a lot of difference- RELIEF. Listening to music makes my day. It's an outlet for me, when I'm sad or happy. There are songs that I could be a princess or a teen-age drama queen. I really need to have music while doing something, it helps me focus more.

I completely agree with you! But I find that personally music works better than laughter for me, because if I am in a bad mood it can be difficult to make me laugh, where as I am never NOT in the mood for music!

I would have to say music. Laughter is pretty great too, but one may not always be in the mood to laugh. when I am feeling badly about something, I can listen to music, and it will cheer me up regardless of the situation, and regardless of how lousy I am feeling. I can read something funny and it'll help a bit, but I prefer music. I think it works better.

I think both are good for what ails you. That said, the perfect combination of the 2 is a lively Irish jig. I defy anyone to feel gloomy listening to one of those! Heck, I defy anyone to even sit still! Maggiepie "WHERE'S THE real BIRTH CERTIFICATE?"

That's a tough one I think that both of them can cure your bad moods and can also cure your boredom. When you're by yourself I would have to say that music is a better medicine because you can really focus your attention on it and get a good feel for the songs that you listen too. Also if you are feeling down it's kind of hard to be laughing unless you are watching something really funny or you are with your friends or something. Music and laughter are both great ways of naturally healing your bad moods and are also great parts of life that I enjoy.

for me,both are best medicines.aside from being a medicine I see laughter and music to help improve my creative thinking.when I am depressed or irritated,I can't think well.when I laugh because of a funny joke or listen to a great song,my creative juices flow.music and laughter are both important to me, not just for my entertainment but also to inspire me.

I feel it depends on the kind of medicine I need. If I'm down, then laughter is the best medicine. If I'm down but I need to get some work done, then inspirational music is the best medicine (it's like using a patriotic song or having the drummers drum as one enters battle.) If I'm stressed or angry, then music does the job. I agree that a funny song works in many situations also.

Both...with music it help to heal a broken heart and it relax the mind and for laughter, its good for heart so when you laugh you can have your heart full of joy and make sense to those who are having a stressful life..But of course it will be better if the combination of two will do the works for you.. Happy Lotting!

It usually depends on why i am depressed. If its about love then comedy is something that takes my mind off of it. If its something related to work then music is something that i always turn to because it makes me calm enough to think again.

I'd have to go with music on this one. Though i'm not saying a good comedy doesn't make me feel a little better sometimes. The thing about music though is that your heart, your soul, your very essence gets involved! i'll take AEROSMITH for an example, one of my favourite groups of all time! they have this one classics called "what it takes" its all about how to let go of someone who just broke your heart. this song would make me cry but i'd sing it out loud and feel the lyrics and let go a little more each time i heard it. Eventually i started to smile when it played. So my final answer would have to be music, because no movie has ever given me experiences like that. and don't forget that music is the soundtrack to your life, hear a song from way back when and you giggle. Music forms memories!!!

Music is absolutely the best medicine. Right now as I am typing this I am listining to music because I was kinda down so I turned on youtube and got inspired. Music can help you sleep it relaxes you but some music can also hype you up.
