Doesn't the press have anything better to do?

When I logged in to my google account I saw a headline "Is Obama Still Smoking" right under one about the Chilian earthquake. Doesn't the press have better things to do than snoop around his medical check-ups and report such trivia? If he had a major health problem I can see the press jumping all over it, but this? What a lot of BS. http://www.mylot.com/w/newsarticle/24143458.aspx What I found interesting in the original press release I read was that there was a poll asking if you would be surprised if President Obama was still smoking. The choices were: Yes, it sends such a bad message to kids - and adults. No, if you had to deal with Republicans everyday, you'd smoke, too. I'm not sure. Interestingly enough 68% of those who took the poll chose number 2. LOL So how about you. Are you surprised? Do you think it's the business of the public? Do you think it's a news worthy headline?

With all the stress and pressure that a man like him experiences on a day-to-day basis, I am not surprised that the President of the US is still smoking and has not yet totally given up the bad habit. He can afford it, LOL.

Personally, I could care less if the guy smokes or not. As a smoker myself, I have to say that if I was in his position, the amount I smoke would more than likely increase significantly. lol. Seriously though. He's a person, just like the rest of us. He puts his pants on one leg at a time like the rest of us. What I found more interesting were the choices they gave. The question was "Would you be surprised if President Obama was still smoking". It's a simple yes or no answer. There's no need to give the responders a reason "why" along with the answer. That's where I believe the press goes wrong. Was it really a "headline"? lol. I think it's more a thing of the controllers of the press trying to control the minds of the readers.

People from press are getting paid by creating sensation out of nothing. We live in the society when media want to rule the way people act and think. They can make you famous or ruin your life. I am sick of what is going on around Obama, soon they will say that Obama is the Russian spy.... Bush used to have drunk driving record and how about comparing it to smoking? I am sick of daily news.

I agree completely. They started out blaming him for the crash of the economy as if he could have caused that in a month or two. Sounds like reporters are being paid by Obama opponents.

I think that Obama is a little like Princess Diana - the press love to report everything about him irrespective of whether it is of genuine interest or not. Also there are so many conspiracy theories about Obama, who he is, was he born in the US, is he a muslim terrorist or a christian reformer, does he want to sell the US short, or make it great etc etc. Personally I'd say that what the public want and need to know is what he is up to in respect of leading the nation, but a little human "colour" helps sell him as a brand. I do think that if he were to say that smoking is unhealthy and anti-social that he should take a lead. But then politicians have always been better at "do as I say" than "do as I do"!

Indeed we are. But politicians like to pretend that they are somehow more virtuous than the rest of us.

But then politicians have always been better at "do as I say" than "do as I do"! Aren't we all? But we just don't make it into the public eye.

hi thebeaddoodler I think the press are always really nutso when it comes to the president no matter who he is or was. I would not be surprised even if some idiot journalist came out with President OBama had bean soup for lunch, and its reported he really had a time with embarrassing poots. I know thats out of line but not much worse than asking about his smoking. Yes I have to agree if he had to deal with some of the Republicans around here he would need to smoke. I think its none of anyones business just like whether or not he toots is anyone's business but his own. This is not newsworthy at all, just a waste of everyones time.

"Is Obama Still Smoking?" that is the kind of news that a lazy journalist can come up with. So what if he smokes. Men and women do, so why can't he? Him being the president of USA doesnt make him the perfect individual. If we pooh, he does too. So why should smoking be the headline? Crazy. haha. I'll be damned if he smokes pot..then you've got yourself a headline.

I find it absolutely appaling that they are reporting on little things like that, when there are so many big things going on in the world. I think the press needs to quit wasing paper in printing this crap, and bandwidth by putting this crap up on their pages. They need to GET REAL!!!!

It does make you wonder just what good things there are going on that the papers don't bother with. Our world is in sad shape when dirt sells papers.
