I have a young child who refuses eating vegetables. I would like to share my problem with other mothers who possibly went throguh this same situation or with anybody who has any suggestion as to how to go about it...thanks

No I've never had that problem with my kids BUT thats because I was giving them fruits and veggies as soon as they started eating solids as babies..Even now as teens they love fruits and some veggies (of course they dont like all but neither do I LOL)..In fact junk food was never an issue until we moved back to my hometown and their uncle started bringing them treats like popcicles and cookies..Why? Becuase I NEVER gave them that sort of thing..

I followed a similar route as yours. My kids love eating raw vegetables but certain vegetables have to be cooked and I faced a few problems till i learnt to give them "exotic names."

I do facing this type of problem when i tried to feed my son to eat more vegetables in the early stage. But, i learned from my mother that, we actually can easily feed and teach young children to learn to eat vegetables by finding out first, what is his favorite food. Then you tried to chop those vegetables into small pieces and cook together with his favorite meal. My son likes to eat fried chicken, so i will tear some fried chicken meat and combined with those small pieces of vegetables and feed them to him. At first, he might show some refusing sign, but after a few days, he will start to like to eat those vegetables as well. Hope it will helps you a bit.

My son has always eaten his vegetables so I don't really have to worry about that. I do know that there are some cookbooks or you can go online and get recipes where you can "hide" the veggies in the dish that you cook. I saw a lady on tv once make brownies and she hid blueberries and some other kind of veggie (I can't remember now what it was) in them and the kids never knew it and they ate them and loved them.

I have no problem feeding my child vegetables. We went shopping a few days ago and she helped me pick out some groceries. She picked out a can of spinach. She loves it along with other vegetables. She eats about any kind there is. We started feeding her spinach when she was a baby; it was her favorite.

Same here ! I too face similar problem while feeding my kids. With passing days and opening of fast food centres in our locality they refuse to eat home made food. Green vegetables and fruits are very important for growing kids but they refuse to understand.I have started to make green vegetable soup and serve them in a very attractive bowl .I try to make the food look attractive with little garnishing and decoration.I flatly refuse their demands of fast food instead i take them to a good resturant once in a week or fifteen days. I try to make them what they want ,gather new recipes and tips from friends and it has helped to an extent.

Yes, there are lots of us around who face this very same problem. I find making Chinese stir fries a good way to get vegetables into my boys. Also, I dice the vegetables and then ask the children to add their own toppings to make their own salad. Veggies get gobbled down that way too. Sometimes I make cutlets our of certain vegetables like potatoes carrots and peas and at other times I make soups to get the them to eat healthy. Yes it does take a bit of work but the variety you put before a child helps.

mince the vegetables, put them in the dish, they wont even know it! Cut them and present them in fun shapes and sizes. Have the children help you prepare them!

My kids hated veggies. If you buy V8 Splash, it is a fruity veggie juice. My kids loved it, and two glasses, will get them their servings of veggies. Also I found my kids did better if they were raw, and not cooked, and they could dip it in something like ranch dip. My daughter even dipped them in Ketchup. If you make a sauce for pasta, add plain V8 juice to it, they will never know it is in there.

Aside from completely hiding what the child won't eat inside something they will, there's always making the food fun. Cut shapes and make pictures or games of it (if you've ever seen bento artwork you'll have an idea what I mean). And, of course, there is always bribery ("if you eat [food they don't like] you can have [food/activity they do like] afterward").
