rangel steps down...for now

Rep. Rangel announced today he would temporarily step down as chairman of the ways and means committee until the ethics investigation on him is complete. But that he is NOT going to give it up for good..nor is he going to resign his seat. Rangel is in trouble for violating rules by going on fancy trips paid for by corporations and lobbyist...he is also in trouble for tax evasion. So is this ok with you? Should he just step down for now...or should he step down and resign his seat? I personally don't think he belongs in our government. Tell me what you think.

Whoopi doda, does Rangel still have a vote yes, does Rangel still get paid yes. So what he is not the chairman for right now, he will be replaced and the game will just continue.

You forgot that he still gets his office and staff expence money, his travel home money, and his free postage money. Really make you feel bad for him doesn't it.

I know...I know. It ticks me off. He is a corrupt idiot. Yet he stays in office. Pelosi takes up for him. He needs to be run out of office and town. He breaks the law and he gets a slap on the wrist...the rest of us...we would be in jail. The double standard is sickening.

Poor Charlie, don't you feel sorry for the rough way he's being treated? Poor, poor Charlie. Kick the turkey out, without pay of any kind - YESTERDAY!

He has been defended by people in his party who say he didn't hurt the country in any way. Just what do you have to do to hurt the country, if being in a high position and being totally unethical, a thief, and a tax evader (and that's just for starters), isn't enough? He should never have been made head of the Ways and Means Committee, nor should he have ever been elected to his current post. People have known how crooked he is for a long time and yet, they keep bringing him back. We're getting what we voted for - a scoundrel.

I laughed when Pelosi said he had not done anything to hurt the country. Well not paying your taxes hurts the country. Taking trips paid for by corporations then giving them favors in return...can you say pay for play. that is illegal and it does hurt the country. This guy needs to be looking at a jail time....not left in office. He needs to step down completely or be made to.

I think that since the investigation is far from complete he did the right thing - for now. He claims he didn't know who paid for the trips he took and apparently they can't prove otherwise at this time. SHOULD he have made sure to find out who was paying for any trip he took? I think so but possibly that neglect in itself isn't enough to sink him. I understand the more serious allegations against him haven't been investigated yet. If and when he's found to be guilty of some misconduct, then he should definitely be dealt with accordingly. I honestly don't think he's going to be able to "get away" with anything and still keep his seat and his chairmanship considering how much attention this has gotten and I don't think he should. Annie

I think Rangel is just trying to take some preasure off of Pelosi, she has had his back from the start of all this. She should have removed him, at least temporarily as soon as this started. She did not want to unset the black members of Congress, or to take any action against a fellow Deomcrat. It is time that Comgress stop playing this game of protecting the crooks just because they are members of your party and you have the majority. I don't believe that he belongs in our government either, but you have to admit, he does fit in nicely with everyone there!

Yes he does fit in nicely with the rest of the corrupt crooks...which why they all need to go. Starting with him.

It's the first "good" thing the man has done...step down. Now I want to see the hammer dropped; the Ethics Committee to do its job; and the IRS to do its job and us to hear the man's behind bars for x number of years...
