Who are foreigners? Let me guess? When other nationality visited asia and other country we call them a foreigner Am i right? Most people from Europe,Canada,Australia,USA,UK etc.are called foreigners when they are in asia and in some other countries. But why when asian nationals visit Europe and neighbor countries, they will call them as asian.?Is an asian nationals is not a foreigner?Just curious? What is the different of asian nationals to other countries why asian countries couldn't be called as foreigner? My friend from UK pays a visit on me the other day and my chinese friend asked me about her nationality i said A British Nationals, and she answer me back, ohhh shes a foreigner.I said "yes".And i asked her back when you visited UK last year do you consider yourself a foreigner too in their country she said NO,i asked her why, because she never been called a foreigner because she can always hear" She came from Asia" hahaha..So who are FOREIGNERS?? Your every opinion are most welcome.Thank you! Happy myLotting!!

No matter Is an "Asian, European,Italian,American,British and so on! We are all being called a foreigner once we step in to other country. I'm bit regret actually when I posted this topic, i don't really mean made a people thinks about discrimination! I just want to let everyone knows The word foreigner is for everyone/everybody who is visiting other nation/place no matter you are Asians. I would like to apologize to those people who seems getting a bit odd about this topic,I never thought of discrimination "and actually this topic is for a friend who cannot understand the meaning of "FOREIGNER"..(if you can notice my example at the end of this topic".And the question that I have with her. People from US or UK look different from us in terms of their skin color(mostly reddish) and height and morever we cannot differentiate if they're britishers or Americans at the very first look at their faces hence they feel comfortable calling them to be foreigners.Asians are known for their Small eyes and Good Skin color and being short if i'm not wrong----so it would be easier for them to categorise us to be people of Asian origin---hence they're called as Asians rather than foreigners. Coming to the exact definition---Foreigner is a person who visits non-native countries.

Foreign as such refers to not related with or not belong to local. If you have some dust hurt your eyes, they call it as foreign body in medical terms. In any country other nationals are foreigners, example am Extranjero(Foreigner in english) en Chile as am not chilean national. Also many countries has different ticketing and prices etc for foreigners. Example in India, the entrance fees for locals and foeigners are different.

A foreigner is someone who comes from another country, be it an American, European, German, etc. It is a term to generally denote a person not from their own country. Asians are foreigners, too if they visit countries in Europe or America. People use different terms to refer to certain group of people depending on which term they are comfortable with. Other people would use "Expats" instead of "foreigners", and some would even use the term "Aliens". To each his own. :)

hi cloud31, in my opinion, as i see it these kind of people in europe and in the u.s.a. they seem to be more of a kind of superior complex. they tend to think that we asians are second class citizens not entitled to be called foreigners. this is just my perception. true to all who responded to your discussion, everyone who is not a citizen of that country which they are staying, they are called foreigners or aliens.

When I were a lad, people form the next town were foreigners and those from the South... well, they might as well have been on another planet. Seriously though, anyone visiting another country other than there own is a foreigner there regardless of what the locals call them.

Anyone who is not a legal citizen of my country is a foreigner as I would be if I were not legal to their country. Thats what I've assumed it to mean any way.

i guess if someone enter to other country and not their own country they are already considered as alien or foreign people. and since its hard to distinguish if the foreign national is american, australian, Canadian and etc just by their looks we rather called them foreigner unlike asian, its easy for them to figure out if we are asian just by our looks so they called asian as asian. but then we can only tell from where they come from if they introduce their selves and tell from where they are and so only then we call them s a canadian or australian and etc.

Foreigners could be anybody who doesnt belong to your country. When I go to Korea, I will be considered a foreigner there because I am not a native of the country. If you go to another country then you are a foreigner too. When somebody from Korea, or Japan or anywhere comes to visit our country or your country then they are considered foreign. Foreign means someone who doesnt belong to a group.

In my point of view anyone who goes to another country he/ she is a foreigner or an alien because she/ he is not a native of that place. I guess we are just used to calling other nationals as foreigners but technically a foreigner is anyone who is not a resident or native of a certain country. In Europe and North America it is easier for them to describe someone by using terms like Asian or African rather than using the term foreigner.

If we check the definition of foreigner in thesaurus, it defines as alien, stranger and outsider.I know that the European and American discriminates people in Asians because for them Asians are just worker and in their country. I think that is the reason why they call us ASIAN not foreigners.

there are several meanings for the word foreign in the dictionary, ones most applied to the meaning of foreigners in this context are "strange or unfamiliar", "alien" and "external to own's own country or nation". so pretty much, a foreigner in this context would be an outside from another country or part of country going to somewhere different from where they are used to.
