garbage collection

the garbage collection in my area is once daily. some times the garbage truck did not turn up. the garbage truck has a number of hugh thick plastic bags hanging at its side. the grabage collectors are busy opening/ tearing the garbage bags collected from the houses and separate them into papers, plastic, aluminium and put them in the bags concerned. i think they sell or dispose them somewhere. how about in your country.

I can't believe you have collection daily. We have collection once a week. We have to extra large containers outside. One is for regular garbage and the other is for recyclables. Our garbage is picked up by a machine attached to the truck. The driver doesn't even get out of truck. The machine lifts the garbage can off the sidewalk and its dump into a larger container in the truck.

here is so different. its not like your country. here is labour intensive and the work is done by foreign immigrants and males too. the garbage truck driver stops at the road and the men jump down from the trucks , walk to our bins and collect the plastic bags, maybe 1, 2 3 or even more. theey then throw the bags inside the truck and the men inside the truck tear open the bags and do the separation. its that fast.

If the garbage men have to sort through the garbage for the recycling how is that fast?

yes, lelin, they do it very fast. day in and day out, they are doing it. its money for them. they divide the jobs between themselves. some men collect the rubbish from the bins outside the houses. they throw into the trucks. the men in the truck tear the bags open and viola, they are separating the items. they are very enthusiastic about it. then they sell the items to outlets where they have connections. its good for us, they come very regularly to collect the trash. everyday except sunday as its a day of rest. thanks.

our garbage truck pick up our garbage daily between 12am-4am. we will just put the garbage outside our house around 10pm. we are not allowed to put garbage outside during day time to avoid those smell and those dog to dig them that will only scatter those garbage everywhere.

oh, i never knew about this. in my country, we put out garbage in the morning . in my area by 9.am or 10am the garbage are gone. if we put the garbage out late, its collection time tomorrow. we run the risk of 'vultures' digging into the garbage bins to salvage papers, bottles etc. its an ugly sight when these bags are forced open and the remains are strewn on the road side and we have to collect and put in another bag.we bring it inside the compound of the house and put out tomorrow. what a hassle.

We have to sort out different kinds of waste on our own. We can dispose it in special containers and we don't have to pay for these types of waste, like paper, bottles and cans, electronics. The rest of the garbage goes to regular dumpster. I live in an apartment house, we have a large dumpster by the house. The garbage truck arrives every Sunday to empty it. A week is usually enough to fill that dumpster up.

I am just amazed that you have daily collection. Here in the UK, we get collection once a week (sometimes even less, our garbagemen around my area are quite unreliable).
Anyway, the garbagemen don't tend to rummage through the bins here, they just sling the bags of rubbish into the back of the truck and continue on their way.

thanks mrkennedy for your fast response. here these garbage collectors are rather efficient as there are money in the garbage. recycled materials fetch money here. it adds to their income.

i think the garbage collectors here are doing multi taskings. they are helping themselves to earn some side income through this way collectively. because i notice them doing this, i purposely divide the garbage waste into papers, plastic aluminium and food waste. in this way its neater for them to work on.
