Why is Pro-Choice Beginning to Sound Like "Pro-Abortion"?

I've always said that I am pro-choice when talking about my stand on the issue of abortion. I'm not at ALL saying that I support abortion, but I'm saying I believe a woman should have the right to get one, mainly because there are always so many circumstances where perhaps the mother's life is endangered by the pregnancy or wouldn't be able to have a C-section or go through labor. Whatever, that's not what I'm getting at! But what I've been noticing lately is that "pro-choice" supporters are beginning to seem like they are more "pro-abortion". For example, there was a commercial that aired on one of my local channels and it was a cute little touching bit with the message that you could give your child up for adoption instead of simply aborting it. After it aired, there was a HUGE uproar by pro-choicers! It never said anything about taking that decision-making right away from women, it simply suggested an alternative - and believe me, if you are able to have the baby and give it up for adoption instead of getting an abortion, that would be great! So I thought it was a really thoughtful and good message, but there was so much controversy that the commercial was taken down. So I'm starting to think maybe there's more to the pro-choice belief than I thought, because it seems like they are supporting the actual act of abortion, and not the right for a woman to make such a decision. What do you think?

One thing for sure, if you want Pro-Choice then abstain. That is the best way for you to prevent pregnancy. Not by killing something that is already alive. The world today is dangerous. No respect for life anymore.

I always say I'm Pro-choice, anti-abortion. Abortion is an alternative, but in my mind, only as a last resort. When polled by telephone the other day, I know the guy doing the polling wrote me down as Pro-choice; he didn't hear the rest of my opinion.

I know most pregnant ladies in my home country have tests to see if the baby they are carrying is healthy. It can include scans and blood tests. During my second pregnancy I had scans at 11 weeks pregnancy, 16 weeks pregnancy which was to see the gender and 20 weeks pregnancy was a detailed scan. I am surprised to see that they didn't see my son is disabled at the in detail scan half way through my pregnancy. I was quite ill at 36 weeks pregnancy so they did a scan because my baby seemed small for my due date. Then it was finally found out my son has spina bifida and hydrocephalus. Ladies with such a baby usually find out at the 16 week blood test or the 20 week detailed scan. Shockingly they asked if I wanted to have an abortion at 36 weeks pregnancy and I said no way. Many pregnant ladies that have a disabled baby in their bump are talked into having an abortion by hospital staff. My son is now a happy little two years and nine months old boy. Some ladies are pregnant but it puts their life in danger. In that case many countries allow abortion after their usual cut off limit. In my home country 98% of abortions are for social or economic reasons. Just 2% of abortions are because the mother's life is in danger or the baby is severely disabled. Personally I wouldn't ever want to have an abortion. I respect the choice of other ladies but agree with the advert promoting adoption.

hi sinfulfox, I dont know what you would call where I stand as I am allfor a woman having the right to make decisions about her own body and to have an abortion if she has been raped or is indeed in dangerof losing her life if she carries the infant to full term. but if she can have a baby without endangering her life, do put it out for adoption, dont murder it that is really murder. So I am not pro abortion, I am for some choices that the woman has but not to use abortion as an ugly forn of birth control.,thats really sick and it is murder.

That doesn't make sense, why would people who agree with women having the right to choose have an issue with choice? I'm very pro-choice and feel it would be ignorant of me to try and limit someone's choices.

I agree. I think it is important for people to understand that even if you are pro-choice, doesn't mean that you are going to or have had an abortion. It just means that you don't want to take that decision away from someone else. I am with you in thinking that if a woman is raped, or in danger, it may be advisable to terminate the pregnancy. While there are people who use this procedure as an "out" for bad decisions, I think it can have some okay uses too.
