Why Dogs always like to kill or bark, or make run after cats? What's wrong with cats and dogs. Actually dog don't like cats. Cats don't directly attack dogs. But when they kept in the same family, they lived like a best friend. Why dog do like that to cats. Is there any myth about this. Please share feelings?

I think, there will be any wrong connection that will be inbuilt within dogs and cats... I think, dog might have thought that cat as a alien, and cat also thinks the same towards dog...

Well,For Me,I Think Is Because On The Ancient Times...Dogs Are The Mens Protections,To The Animal's Mens & The Mens,Against The Wilds Cats...Is Like The Cats With The Mouses,Or Wolves & Dogs... So They Are Rivals Only For Men's Protection...When They Lived Together,Don't Needed To Be Enemies,They Both Have The Men's Love & Protection... Have a Nice Day,My Dear Friend!!!

you raise an interesting point. Dogs and cats fight outside but can be friends if raised in the same household.

It strikes my mind that they are both a predator, so maybe they are interested in hunting off the other type of predator from their teritory to make sure there is food enough.... Based on that statement it is in thier nature instincts.

Not always. I had a dog and a cat at the same house. They didn't grew up together. First time my dog saw the cat, he try to smell him, but the cat (yes, the cat) hit the dog! When he put his nose near to the cat face, the cat scratched his snout. But after some time they became used with each other presence, and never fighted again. Anyway, my dog never chase any cat (strange or not), only dogs with his same size bother him.

I think its instinctual for dogs to chase any cat. However a dog is going to chase anything from another house if for nothing else other than to protect his home territory.Dogs are constantly proving that their the top dog. Its called being the Alpha. dl

We have pet cats and there was one time we had a dog in our home for just one day. They were fighting. The surprising thing is, the cat was the aggressive one and she was fighting the dog. I guess it's because the cat was actually an adult and the dog was a puppy. Since the cats are our pets, they are territorial and would protect their territory from what they think are threats just like that dog. I think this would be the same if cats are brought to a house with pet dogs. But if both live together, they know that they are both part of the household. They are familiar with each other and somehow share territory.

I think it's their natural behaviour to behave like this. They are made this way. Maybe it's a law of nature of something...

I do not know about the exact myth or logic behind it! I can prove your statements taking the example of two cartoons! My Cat vs. Neighbor's Dog - Mr. Bean My Cat and Dog together - Garfield and Odie!!

they don't. that is probably more true in the saying than in reality. i have two cats and five dogs and they go along very well. they even sleep together in their improvised cats. sometimes, it's even the dogs that fight among themselves, never between the cats and dogs in my home. i think, what is real is that they become defensive when they see cats that threaten their place in the home and vice versa. that's a natural and instinctive reaction among dogs and cats...

To me it is a territorial thing. You are invading my space. Get out, lol. That is like a big dog will coward to a small dog or cat if it was in the house first. That is funny as well. One of our friends has 3 pit-bulls, a little chihuahua, and a couple of cats. They all coward the king the chihuahua, and he is the littlest. One swipe and he would history lol. No its not funny if he got hurt, its funny that hes the man the runs the animals. So I would say it goes back to your invading my space and I am going to protect it at all cost.

oh yes I have seen cats attack dogs and for this reason one of our dogs hated cats and if he could would get ahold of them and kill them. Had to keep him on a leash when out in a yard with no gate or femce. After we moved here never got out of the yard have 6 ft high walls al around. But the cats would walk the wall and drive the dogs crazy lolol they finally learned not to walk our wall.

hi vine88, dogs are territorial. They defend their territory against any intruders whether it is two legged or a four legged intruder. It is easy to pick on a cat. Though cats can use their claws to defend themselves. If you have already a kitten in the house and your bring in a puppy, most probably they will grow fond of each other. They will be the best friend for life. However dogs are renowned to chase cats especially if cats invade their territory its only nature. Its with training and patience that you can make a cat and a dog friends.

Dogs come from wolves, who chase small animals for food. This basic drive is very hard for a dog to give up, it's just to much fun. Cats raised with dogs usually don't run, if they are let outside this can cause them to be easy prey for strange dogs. Dogs are also pack animals and will include in their pack all the members of the family they are raised with. So Dogs raised with cats will not chase their own cats but still can chase strange cats.

I think that the reason that a dog wants to attack a cat that doesn't belong in their own home is because of the fact that they see them as an intruder. It was only a month ago that we got our first cat (my daughter brought in a stray on a day when she was home sick from school). I really didn't know what to think at first because we already had two pet dogs in the house. I was afraid that our dogs were going to attack the cat. I was shocked to see that the cat and the dogs really did get along well after about five minutes of checking each other out.

I dont know why but our neighbors dog do not chase our cat. The dog comes to us to beg food while our cat dont mind. I think they just ignore one another. If the dog is talking she might say "I'm happy to be here in their house and see their very cute cat. I can't wait for food any longer. The cat is the pet of my food givers so why should I fight with her?" This can be what runs at the mind of the neighbor dog.
