Hi mylotters. I have windows 7 started on my new laptop. However, there are softwares that I was using on my old pc running with Windows XP that I want to install on my laptop and I can not. I got a message that the old softwares are not compatible with windows 7. Is there any solution of using the programs on Windows 7 since they are really very interesting ones. Besides, they are programs not available on the net and so it is practically impossible to update the programs.

What everyone hear has said is quite accurate, compatibility mode can work, but as other have said sometimes it does not work. There is another solution to this problem though and that is to use the program called Microsoft virtual PC. This program is a PC emulator and you can install a version of windows on it, such as windows XP, and then install your programs onto the virtual PC. With this program you can change almost anything about the hardware of it, for example you can change the RAM and how big it's hard drive is (don't forget you can't make the RAM or hard drive bigger then your physical ones). To get this software you can download it of of the Microsoft website using this link www.microsoft.com/windows/virtual-pc/download.aspx all you need to do is follow the instructions on the download page. =) Hope this helps!

The compatibility mode does NOT always works on W7 64bit. I've experienced that for several of my programs. The software developer might have a solution on your problem, but it will cost you money even though you already paid for the software. The same problem can occur with drivers for hardware. If the developer does not make new drivers, you have to buy another product.

What You need to do is run the installer for the programs in compatibility mode for XP. This is 99% guaranteed to work!
