I was told by a guy recently that his boss threatened to fir him from his job if he ever gets to a place he was sent late and i asked him why he must get there late? but when i listened to him i wondered if the boss was right or wrong, this is the story he was asked to go and attend a meeting to register the name of the company in a place which is about 2 hours away,he was not given a time to get there but was just told to go without an address just the name of where he is going, and of course he was expected to get there by 10 but was told to go 8;30 now on his way the boss kept calling to know if he is there and finally he told him that if you dont get there by 10:00 am dont even bother coming back just forget your job, now my question is why threaten him with job loss if you have not given him a reasonable notice?if it were you what would you do?

Sounds like either you've been given the story wrong, or the boss was at fault for not giving enough information. But, if the employee was given everything he needed, and was late without saying something. Then I understand fully the threat of losing his job. During those phone calls, the employee in question had the perfect oppertunity to speak up and either say he was lost, or he did not recall being told where to go exactly. Had those things been mentioned, then I would say the employer was in the wrong. But, they obviously were not based on what you have said. So therefore... if he loses his job, he deserves it.

I agree with kaylachan. If this meeting was important why would his boss risk not being able to make it? Furthermore, why would anyone go anywhere without knowing how to get there?

I ACTUALLY GAVE YOU THIS STORY ACCURATELY COSI EVENTUALLY TRIED TO DO MY OWN INVESTIGATION OVER THE WHOLE ISSUE AS MY FRIEND WAS VISIBLE MAD WITH THE EMPLOYER FOR HIS CONDUCT OVER THE WHOLE ISSUE AND HE DEFINITELY HAS A colleague of his who was also with him at the same time and was also under the same pressure simultaneously at the same time and in fact some other people working with them say the boss had a penchant for making that statement

It is the responsibility of the boss to give proper instructions, if this was not done , then your friend can sue the company for damages. I also think that your boss is mad.

He will be able to fight that in court if that is true, you are not as a boss allowed to give impossible directives to your employees and then threaten them, if you do so then that employee will have grounds to sue you. He would need to collect proof by having a witness drive in his car from his place of employment to the location and timing the ride, then he would be able to make a stand in court but only if he is fired, which I doubt because employers know they would not have a leg to stand on.

hi byola i would go to the closest labor board if I were him and swear out a complaint against my boss and tell them 'the circumstances under which my boss threatened to fire me. I would not just take it as that is just not right.
