gather is a waste of time

Hey lotters a few weeks ago I signed on to Gather just to check it out. It claims to be a lot like My Lot. Have discussions and you get paid. I have responded to people and so far I have only had 1 point! I still have no idea how many points you need to get a pay out. A lot of discussions are really silly. I am not joking these are just some of the topics. How Many Resturants Can You Name? How Many Schools Can You Name? What? Then they have one person start 4 or 5 of the same topics. One guy started four different discussions about Sandra Bullock and Jesse James and their split. WHO CARES? I enjoy being on here so much more and I actually can see that I am making money each time I am on here. I am thinking about closing my Gather account since I doubt I will be back on there. I want to thank all of you for your great discussions, the great debates we get into when we don't agree, and even when we have fun questions they really are fun. Just wanted to let people know stay away from this site a waste of time. My Lot is way better I even told one person on there and they said they were going to check My Lot out. I bet once they come over here they won't be on Gather anymore either. Peace & God Bless To All The Lotters Here!

Gather used to be better. They just recently changed how you earn with them. It USED to be that you earned by being active (like on here). If you commented, rated, talked, posted...you would earn. NOW they've changed it so that people have to comment and rate your stuff for you to earn. Which SUCKS.

You don't have to use your real name. Or at least when I first joined you didn't. And Lily is right, I remember the good 'ol Gather days.

I haven't even noticed they used my real name! LOL I thought I had the same username there as I do here

thanks for telling me that Lily for sure now I am going to cancel the account and stay here. Do you like the fact they use your real name on there? Sorry I like it here where I can pick a name and then later when I am comfortable with friends than I don't mind saying my real name or sharing a lot of personal info.

well the main thing that bothers me about gather is how you earn is confusing I think all i have is 25 points or something like that and its not like i never did anything on there. I have put comments on there quite a few times and my points barely move whether it is a short comment or a long one so i have no idea what they want there. So with the frustration of not knowing how you get the points to add up it makes me like you not want to be on there much as with this site here you can see how much you have and how it goes up each day and i much prefer it be money instead of points it is just so much less confusing that way. At least when you are on here the discussions are usually a lot more meaningful and not as silly as on there as you mentioned one time there was one about how many words can you make with a certain set of letters. At least here you can see your earnings add up and you know how much time you have put into it and what you think you should get out of it and on there it just doesn't make sense of how you get paid and for what and even though they have decent prizes. I just don't know how to get the points built up or what i am supposed to do to get the points to add up so i can get one of the decent prizes and with the points i just do know where I am on there or what I am doing wrong when I am not earning many.

I have made 50 bucks there. However, in the same amount of time I spent on Gather, I surely doubled that at mylot. I also went four days once at Gather with NO points. I responded, posted, did everything I could. And those stupid post numbers didn't go up.

When I first started on here I wasn't that active but yes I always saw what I earned. And yes it is very confusing I even read gather faq and had more questions than answers. And the people aren't that helpful as they are on here. I had people request to be my friend odd thing was I didn't even start anything yet and I had three friend requests. I asked one person just that how do you earn points and how things worked on here in a PM. They responded by telling me about some site they are on and even referred me to a survey site I already joined without asking if they could refer me. I like some privacy and respect. Is that to much to ask. If I were you Tim I would forget the 25 points you have probably already doubled or tripled that amount here.

I thought it was going to be like this site the way they make it sound. I was just going to bounce back and forth between the two. But My Lot is a billion times better one of the few on-line sites that delivers what it promises. I hope My Lot never gets like that.

I read some bad stuffs about this site before.. but then again, I didn't really join because it's not a paying site for international members. But I don't mind trying, until I read some bad reviews about it. But there are also those whom enjoy this site much, but I wonder if they are still involved..

Gather.com is set up the same on here. They say like My Lot get paid for having discussions. To be honest I still can't figure out how to earn points or how I even got the one point on there. People start discussions on there and you can respond to them. If you want to look at it go ahead I just wouldn't recommend joining it. You don't seem to earn anything or it takes a long time to do it. A lotter on here said it took him 7 months just to earn $75.00 on Gather. Now that I have been active on here I am earning and fill I could get a payout every month. I don't think if I was active on there I would earn much. I signed up two weeks ago and am losing interest of even going on there. There are a few other things on there that make me uncomfortable with the way it is set up. It is a site to pay for discussions and when I responded I didn't get any credit for any of my comments. My Lot you always get some kind of credit even if you are here for a few minutes or a few hours. It is worth it being here having fun and earning a little extra money on the way.

Snoopyfan, you said that it took your friend seven months to make $75.00 on Gather, and you said it like it was a bad thing. Actually, if you think about it, though, that is about what you would make on myLot in seven months, too, if you just make a little over minimum payout each month, since minimum payout here is $10.00. That is neither an endorsement for Gather nor a negative statement about myLot, but I was just trying to compare the payout, and it seems that they are about the same. I think that having a minimum of $10.00 and allowing payout each month makes it seem like we are making more money here on myLot, though.

First, with the kinds of "discussions" that people have described on Gather, it makes a lot more sense why some people come here to myLot and think that they can get away with some of the things that they call discussions on this site. I guess they figure that if they can earn for that kind of thing on other sites, then they should be able to do the same thing here, which obviously does not work. Second, I know somebody that has been active on Gather for a while. She said that she used to be able to earn between $50 and $150 per month depending upon how active she was on there. Now, she said that it takes her two months to make $50, which is obviously a significant drop in earnings for her. I imagine that is still better than the average person on myLot makes in two months, but I am not sure that most people earned that much on Gather each month, either. Third, the thing that I like best about myLot is that I earn for what I do, so I do not have to rely on anyone else to earn money. From what I understand about Gather, however, you earn when other people read and rate your discussions, which means that I have to rely on other people for my earnings instead of being able to earn from what I do. Since I can only control how active I am and what I do, I definitely think that the way that myLot calculates earnings is much better.

Actually, here your rating does factor into how much you earn, but it is only a part of the equation (and no, we do not know how big a part it is). If you have a higher rating, then you will earn more than if you have a lower rating. However, I do not think that it makes a huge difference, especially since we only earn pennies each day anyway. The biggest factor for your earnings on myLot is your activity and the quality of your discussions and responses. You are in control. If I understand it correctly, on Gather, you earn for the amount of views that your discussions and pictures get. If you have a lot of people that view your work, then you will earn more than someone that might be more active but does not receive as many views. Therefore, you do not really have control over your earnings. That is why I would not choose Gather over myLot. I like to be in control of my earning potential. If I am very active on here, then I will earn. If I was to be very active on Gather, then I would not necessarily earn. That does not seem right to me.

Thanks for listing another reason not to try gather. It doesn't seem right that to earn you have to rely on how many responses you get and your rating. I am so glad they don't do that here not a good idea.

I told you I liked mylot better! lol It does take a long time to earn points over there. I first joined in 2007 and didn't come back until early 2009. I joined to give a mylot member a referral. There is a Gather member that is on my friend list over there, and she was active in mylot two years before she joined Mylot (I did not know this until late in my "Gathersom"). Now she only does Gather, and says she much prefers it to mylot. She says she has earned twice as much there as she did here. Which could be true. But every time I get a stupid discussion about naming all the C words you can....Good grief, how desperate are they for points? A lot of people also like that they can ask for referrals from other people. And they certainly can say more mean things over there than here. I mean a lot of people think they see dirty on mylot - who can Gather get worse! There are many wonderful, sweet people on Gather. But I'll choose mylot over gather any day of the week.

One that gets me is a lady who posts 100 pictures of one event, and 40 of them are frame by frame, so they are extremely similar. She is one of the ones who also posts name words that start with 'c'. And when she doesn't get comments on her pictures...she really gets mad. She posts about how she guesses her friends have ignored her.

Yes you did try and warn me. I wonder how many discussions or silly questions this person has to post to get points. It is funny how the same person starts 4 discussions on the same thing and you can see they are doing it in minutes. This one guy had 4 discussions about Brady Quinn being traded to The Denver Broncos. He just changes one or two words in the title like no one is going to notice it is the same thing. And half the time there aren't a lot of people who respond seems they are spending more time thinking of meaningless questions than something interesting. Yes I have also noticed how mean some of the people are over here. I am staying here on the Light Side Of The Force. Have a great day!

I am a member of Gather before I am a member of mylot. The reason I left Gather is because they don't pay international members. The discussions you are talking about are games (like How Many Restaurants Can You Name?) they created so you will comment on their discussions, which means more points for them. Some of the games there are great like one of them started a poetry contest with winners every week or month. It is also fun there but they don't pay me so I stayed here in mylot.

Those games are started by the same person I guess that is how they are earning points. I just like it here where you can discuss and both earn and not just help one person earn money. What is the point in helping other people earn money and you get nothing. I am sure you already developed friendships on there so it is more enjoyable for you. I am glad I found My Lot.

I have joined Gather as well and I believe that site is not a scam but it is really hard to earn point there. You have to work really hard for cents there but the prizes are great though...I agree that MyLot is a lot better than that in many ways.

I doubt I will be there at much or if at all. I work on other things as well such as on-line surveys and mystery shopping. Only so much time in a day to get stuff done. My Lot is # 1 in my book.

Actually some topic are really non-sense same thing happens in other paying social network like expertinn, paymesocial, frenszone, and kalutusan because of this some kind of stupid members who doesn't have a good idea on creating a quality questions or topic. They only want to earn but they didn't know that they are just ruining the sites. Admin and mods cannot clean all those nonsense topic they need help and feedbacks from their members but since no one doesn't care about it and every one is after with the earnings the site itself just turn in to nothing but a waste of time.
