Credit Cards in Canada

United States

I will be traveling to Niagara Falls with my boyfriend in May, and I am wondering if Canadian stores will be able to accept my credit cards. I know when people travel overseas they have to call the bank to tell them, so that they don't suspect identity theft and put a hold on the account. Would I be able to use a Discover and Visa card in Niagara Falls?

I have traveled to Canada many times and have never had a problem using my credit Cards. You may find that the billing is slower and things don't get posted as quickly as they do in the States. Most will use the electronic system and get their money right away while others use the credit card receipts to pay suppliers. Keep track of your charges so you don't go over your limit and have to pay high fees.

I heard this on the radio during the Winter Olympics which was held in my hometown - Vancouver. Visa was one of the major sponsors - they were saying that the top 5 countries (ie. international card holders) using Visa during that first week were from the US, China, Japan, China and Great Britain meaning Canada welcomes Visa.

Hello jenrose good morning.. I am not from Canada and I haven't been to Canada as well. However, my aunt is working in Canada and she mentioned that you really have to call your bank or credit card company to inform them that you are travelling. Master Card/Visa Card is accepted in some stores. That's just the information I got.
