gross man working in a school canteen...

Months ago I was at this university canteen to eat. While there I noticed a fat man coughing non-stop, not covering his mouth and delivering his spit into the sink area where the water dispenser for customers is situated. He just spat there and making gross sounds trying to extricate phlegm from his lungs in front of the people eating there. I thought he was a customer but after doing the gross things he did he went into the kitchen. I realized he is a worker there, probably the cook or something. I stopped going to that cafeteria for several months until this morning. I was so hungry and I had forgotten about that incident and I just walked straight to the same cafeteria when, even before I could enter I was greeted by the sound of non-stop coughing. So I thought it must be a customer because this happened at the area where the tables for diners are. Then I saw the same person still coughing the same cough and still making gross sounds trying to extricate phlegm from his phlegm. OMG! His cough is still here even after many months? After spitting all his phlegm into the sink where diners get their water for drink, he went inside the kitchen. And this gross man spits into the sink without flushing or cleaning the spit he delivers there. How gross! Would you report to authority if you witnessed something like this? There were other members of the canteen crew but the whole thing seemed normal to them like they don't hear nor see anything weird. Am I overreacting? What would you have done if you were in my place?

That is absolutely disgusting! If I were in your place, I would report it right away, especially that it's been months that he is doing that. Don't worry, you are not overreacting.
What's the use of the sanitary and health of the food handler permit or something like that, that the city hall is requiring? Since it's a school, the school should have required those stuff or are at least not blind to not see that. On another note, he has no cough manners and as you mentioned, he didn't even rinse off his spit on the sink. What he's doing is a health hazard to everyone there, most especially children. I hope that school notices and does something about it.

hi cutie18f yes I would report it to one of the d eans tell him or her just what was going on in the university canteen. this man is endangering the health of all the people who dine there, not to mention his coworkers probably too. He needs to be removed from food service and probably should get to his doctor as he sounds ill, and he should not be spreading his germs around for the eating public.The fat part does not bother me because lots of us overweight people are not dirty and unsanitary like this foolish man. I just hope this man is not tubercular as he would be spreading real trouble.I would not keep using the word fat as that is unkind overweight would be better. but this man's behavior is gross and very filthy too, he needs to be taken out of a food service situation.

I'd definately turn it in and I wouldn't go there either. I wouldn't just turn it in to the college either, I'd contact the Board of Health. That is really nasty and the other workers have probably said something and nothing has been done. I certainly wouldn't eat there.

I think he should not be allowed to work if he is ill. I really dont agree with it even if he needs money for his family or something. A lot of students are gonna get sick if he would just allow him to work. I know how it is if you dont have money but the university can always pay some amount of money while he is not working. I am not saying that he should be fired but he should be well before he will be allowed to work again. I think the school director or anybody assigned in the canteen should do something about it.

I would report it, it's very disgusting and I am sure that many other customers of this canteen have left because of the way the one worker does. It's gross. That should be done in the bathroom where he can rinse the sink out and wash his hands. If he keeps having phlegm maybe he should take an allergy pill or go to the doctor about it!
