Hi icecube, Washing our hand before eating is normal here because most of the time we use our hand to eat. We rarely use spoon because it is not our culture and we only do that when we need to take a sup or some watery meals. I also wash my hand after doing outdoor things like gardening or sweeping. It is only a common thing to do as our hand most probably dirty after doing that kind of jobs.

I usually wash my hands before and after testing my blood sugar, or if I'm in the bath. There are other times that they need to be washed, but aside from those two, I always wash my hands before and after handling raw meat. Which in most cases is usually before a dinner. So I wish before at least one meal. Maybe two if you count washing after testing my blood then grabbing something to eat. So, I am not as good about it as I should be, but I'm better then I used to be.

I try to remember to wash my hands. I don't use hand sanitizer. I always wash my hands before I start cooking and also wash my dishes as I go along. I figure they are pretty clean by the time I eat. But other times I like to wash my hands before I eat because my hands are in a lot of places I don't want to take with me to the table!
