What is your basis in choosing the next Philippine president?

Just a question to our Filipino myLotters. The elections are coming up, and I would just like to ask how you came up or how will you come up with your choice in the presidential race? Do you rely on their ads, the surveys, the debates on TV? Personally, I don't believe in surveys and I won't make that my basis in choosing the person I want to become president. I've been watching those debate shows lately in different channels and I'm also looking into their platforms they have posted in their websites. I'm also looking at their track record, what they have done in the past as a senator or a politician or as a man of influence. Based on that, I'm leaning towards Richard Gordon because of what he has done to Subic, his involvement in the Red Cross as a volunteer, his platforms on building a disciplined and progressive nation, and how he talks with such firmness in his voice. How about you, how do you choose your bet and who's the one you're going to vote for?

im from cebu, and i have been asking around some people i know, i only hear two names. noynoy for the masses while its gibo for the middle class. personally, i agree with the majority of the posters here. i have a lot of reason to vote for gordon. about noynoy, i really dont think he can stand up to his own two feet as president just like ex president estrada is in the past. villar is just there for the money. i really think he needs more than what he has now (think of arroyo's wealth before and after she became president). gibo is so pro-GMA. i agree that if gordon won't be the next president, were doomed.

hello moon child. WOW! another Gordonian or a transformer has been spotted! whew! i thought there's only a few in here. I used to be noynoy admirer since he's announcement for candidacy but all that change when i started watching the Presidential Debates and FOrums, that's when i realized that Gordon and Bayani is the best of them all. He has an impressive track record because he turned demoralized subic into a free port zone. people are disciplined and they work really hard and less crime than any other places. not to mention his involvement in red cross, helping a lot of people and just to let you know, he also wanted a 24/7 access of the people to the president or the malacanang call center proposed project. good thing is that i have his number both smart and globe. I have also made a fan made video which has been spreading through out youtube and facebook. here watch it. thank you for choosing gordon. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4w5jimiULj4 and, if you have facebook. you can join some other people in some fan pages. http://wwv.facebook.com/votegordon http://www.facebook.com/gordonbayani http://www.dickgordon2010.com convince others to join our crusade to vote for him. i feel bad about most people choosing the less qualified. let's campaign for him!

Hi LetranKnight25! Like you, I used to think that there are only a few Gordon supporters, but if you look into forums, there are many. Like you, I considered his achievements and what he has done for Subic. That was, for me, the biggest points he earned in my card, so to speak. Though he may not be as popular and as rich or backed by influential people, I think what will make him the best of the lot is that he has political will, and I think he will be able to instill discipline into the Filipinos, which we lack. I really feel that the Filipinos should look into what they have done and what they could do for us and our country rather than rely on surveys or surnames to make their choices. Our country has been spiraling down and this is the time to take action and make the wisest and best choice for the Philippines. I'll be looking into the facebook fanpages in a bit. Thanks!

I dont care for experienced politicians or those who were able to passed bills in the congress or senate because it will only mean that they are used to corrupt. For now, my mind set is to vote the LEAST or LESSER evil coz he has less chance of corrupting the government. This is the reason I choose Noynoy Aquino among all the candidates.

Hi paoxav! Though I respect your decision on choosing Noynoy as your presidential bet, I'd like to ask why you say that he is the lesser or least evil among the candidates. How do you define who is the lesser evil?

you've been for a while old friend. but i guess you're one of those practical voters who prefer to choose the winnable and most known in the surveys and not on experience or plat forms. and prefer to praise them rather than criticize them.. choosing the lesser evil doesn't mean it will help us or the entire country. i wouldn't solve anything, chosen candidates tend to change positions once they are in power most specially those who didn't pass any laws or handled executive job. Don't worry you're not alone. a lot don't care about experience and platforms. but experienced in their own territories gives an impression on how they will run the country. that's why I can't vote for noynoy not because he's nice but i don't see progress in tarlac, or how he handles the hacienda with his family where he should have taken charge and look for a suitable buyer despite that hacienda having a gigantic debt. I respect his parents and if it wasn't for them. we won't having the freedom to choose our own candidates now, that are qualified. finally, I don't think GOrdon has ever been evil as i have watch his vigilance and independence in the Senate when ever the administration get's into these scandals and controversies. if there are issues it should be raised and he won't back out on to it.

hi moonchild ,I personally don't believe on surveys as well. Though featuring those on television could really influence people. My basis for the next president is their credentials and not on how popular they are. Also their background has a big effect on me too, what achievements has they attained to help people. I'm onto Gordon and Gibo.

hello chie pao, so, which one do you really like? gibo and gordon should be number one in the surveys and not those candidates in the NP or LP which i believe to be popular through party and endorsements. Gibo was a secretary of defense but thre was a lot questions about how he handled the Ondoy and Pepeng aftermath. most specially how he handled the problem in the maguindanao massacre. i saw reports that he actually ignore the warning by a mayor in maguindanao about the possible political violence there. although gibo fans have been quoting compliments of other local politicians about gibos job there but some issues needs to be answered and i find it in different when he's playing safe with his answers.

Hi chiepao! It's nice to know that Filipinos look into the presidentiables' credentials and not at what the surveys say. I used to be torn between Gibo and Gordon just like you, but my vote goes to Gordon because of his achievements in the past years. Thanks for responding!
