30 minutes enough?

At some places of employment they will either give a 30 minute lunch or an hour. Some companies have very few employees and others a lot of employees. Do you think with a large company and a lot of employees 30 minutes is enough time to stand and wait for all those people to use the microwave and still have time to get back to work on time?

WE have 30minutes and have to walk across to the restaurant which is also used by the public so, not only do we have to queue, sometimes we struggle to find a seat! We are allowed a few minutes "walking" time and many of us just take a packed lunch to avoid the queue. It isnt really long enough to eat a proper meal but, if they gave us longer, we would either finish later or be paid for fewer hours.

That's cool that you get the extra walking time I would be okay with that!

The company I work for gives us 1 hour for lunch every Mondays to Fridays and on Saturdays we only have 30 minutes since our working hours are shorter. I don't mind having a 30min lunch since it doesn't take me that long to eat. As long as I get a lunch break and a couple of minutes to rest or clear my head, I'm fine with. Regarding your question, if its a large company then they should invest on a lot of microwaves. The previous company I worked for had 4 microwaves in the cafeteria and 1 microwave on each floor of their department. If 30 minutes were given to employees for their lunch and if there's a long queue for the microwave, it's up to the employee if they want most of their time lining up near the microwave or bring a lunch that doesn't need to be heated.

It is just not enough time for me, I have an hour lunch where I am now but I never take the hour it usually takes me like 45 minutes to wait on the microwave and sit down and eat and than clean up and get back to work. Have a nice day

Don't use the microwave. If it's possible to take like a sandwich and chips instead of bringing something that has to be heated. You can also purchase a thermos that will keep soups and such warm until lunch times. We all have to do what we gotta do!

That sounds like a good idea, I hate having to wait for the microwave everyday and it seems like the 30 minutes is over by the time I get to it! Thanks for the ideas and have a great day!!

30 minutes is enough for me to have a lunch. Its also the only time I have to eat lunch these days I am already very lucky to have 30 minutes. A few months ago when i was new to the company, I didnt have a lunch break. The only time I was able to have a lunch at that time was at 3 pm. So I consider myself lucky now that I can eat lunch for 30 minutes during the right time to eat.

If i will be given 30 minutes to eat by my company i dont think i will have any problems regarding that policy. ;) I can eat fast like i can even do it in less than 10 minutes. I know some people might have some problems in it but not me. When im working my mind is set solely for the purpose of working, and when i do eat at work i take into consideration the amount of work load that i have too ;)

I don't think 30 minutes are enough to have the lunch. I am eating slowly, and I am afraid I don't have much time left if I only have 30 minutes in the lunch break. Actually one hour seems to be hurry for me anyway. I love China

i don't think a 30 minute break or even an hour will be enough for big companies if they will be using one microwave. the reason there are lots of restaurants here in the city grounds to accommodate hundreds of employees who will take their lunch in just one hour. but even if it is only an hour break, there are still some employees and workers who will take their breaks earlier or later.

I’ve always found thirty minutes not long enough for lunch especially if you have plans of going somewhere to buy it. In my last job I had 45 minutes which was a bit better but still not quite long enough to catch up on any errands which I usually had plenty of as I worked in the city. I think everybody should have at least one hour unless going home thirty minutes earlier is an option.

Well in our work place, we have 1 hour of lunch. And i prefer 1 hour is really good for them to eat relaxed and relax some time, so they can get back to work with fresh mind. And 30 minutes i dont think its enough at all.

It' depends on the employee, if she/he eats fast or slow. If you are slow-eater then just bring lunch so you need to buy food. If you are fast-eater then buy your foods on canteens. If I will be the president of your company, Your lunch will be 1 hour and every department has time to eat(alternate), so it will be organized well. :)
