Is T20 format affecting the Quality of the Upcoming Future Cricketers?

T20 Format is recently introduced at international level. Two T20 WorldCup has gone and the third one coming up. T20 is getting more popular amongst teens and people and the growing commercialism of T20 matches and the formation of Leagues like IPL is making it more popular. But is this format negatively affecting the quality of the upcoming cricketers. Is this true that experience and skills are given less importance in this format? May be Yes, in my opinion. In a T20 game, a batsman plays limited overs and a bowler bowls hardly 4 overs. In such limited format, how can one test the abilities, performance and skills of a cricketer. T20 format is growing and will continue to grow in popularity and one cannot deny that. But will this not affect the Quality of future cricketers.

Yes, it is affecting the youngsters techniques to some extent. More concerning to me is the effect it has on the bowlers. They get battered to all parts of the park, that it becomes completely meaningless for them to practise the basics of the game. I would rather not want my test players to be playing the T20 format at all. Cheers! Ram

Ram, i completely agree with your viewpoint. The one who is most affected by this T20 format are the bowlers. The only one who can survive in this format are the strong hitters. But is this Format not undermining the spirit of real cricket?

Yes, that is why I look at T20 as one of those rap songs which you keep humming for some time and then forget about it. It is the not a golden melody which you keep humming for a long long time. In fact, if I ask you what was the best innings in the T20 World Cup two years ago, you might not even remember it. But if I ask what was the best innings in the 1983 world cup, you might immediately remember Kapil Dev's knock of 175 against Zimbabwe. Cheers! Ram
