It's bad enough that the gummint is spending our tax money to advertise the over-reaching Census--now they have this load in the works! It's called the "American Community Survey," & it's going out to many folks, but not all, & its VERY long & MUCH nosier than the U.S. 10-year Census, even in its longer form, ever was! Worst of all, it's obligatory or you can be FINED for not answering questions! And they've already hounded at least a few people, demanding to enter their homes! Uh...right not to suffer unreasonable searches & seizures, anyone? Constitution? What time do you leave for work? How do you get there? Bus? Train? Taxi? Walk? Other? Describe your job duties. How much do you earn? What kind of fuel does your home consume? Do you rent? Own? Live with parents? How many times have you been married? What is the acreage of the complex where you rent? How many women of fertile age live here? (No, it's not that baldly put, but the intent is clear) And on & on! This is so patently wrong on every level it MUST be nipped in the bud. To see a copy of the sample the ASC has posted go here: http://www.census.gov/acs/www/Downloads/ACS-1%28info%29%282010%29%20Stateside%20English_web.pdf To sign a petition to protest this nonsense, go here: http://www.petitiononline.com/STOPACS/petition.html Go look! It's...well, I was going to say "unbelievable, but given how Washington now believes we work for it rather than the reverse, I guess it's all too easy to believe it. Sign the petition. Pass it on to friends. Fight the power! Maggiepie GOD IS LOVE. Love is never easy.

I can see asking if you own or rent or your income, but to ask how many women of fertile age live there scares me. I think that the Obama who wants to increase abortion services is looking to see how many abortion clinics disguised as women's health centers he is going to put in that neighborhood. Now for the bus, train, taxi, perhaps he is determining who is environmentally good and will increase the taxes of those who do not do as much walking as he wants, but I am more of the fertility question. It is not the questions that are invasive it is what is done after the government gets the completed forms. Yes sounds like America is starting to become a dictatorship. A ten year census is enough.

It's those darn bureaucrats and also when you have a president such as Obama who wants to control everything, have people say that he was the one to save America, and the world would go to pieces without him, you have this problem. Things do get mislaid, destroyed, etc. I can see a regular census every ten years so the government can find out what state needs help and what state can go it alone, but it seems that this is a "oh those American people have too much time on their hands," It looks like the Obama administration thinks you have to work for them instead of them working for you.

It really is incredibly nosy, far worse than my tiny list could show you--but as much as that bugs me, the threatening nature of those who run this, & the fact that it's demanded MONTHLY is really making me steam! Plus I don't care what they say about the info not being shared, that's just not possible. One man's copy was "misfiled," & he was hounded for weeks by a woman demanding he fill out the form, which he'd already done! If it can be misFILED...does it really need spelling out that (since even honest people can make a mistake, & SEE the "secret" info), that it can also easily be misUSED? Nope. We hafta abort this latest pork-gathering, power-grabbing monster. Just by the way, it takes about "38 minutes" (by the ACS staff's reckoning) to fill this thing out fully. I guess they figure they own that much of our time every month. God, help us, please! Maggiepie FIGHT THE POWER!

That is just absurd! I can't believe they are having the nerve to make this compulsory. I hope everyone signs the petition. I'm in Canada so I don't think I can, but I wish I could. It sounds like Big Brother wants to know how often you go pee and poop, too.

Well, they are back to asking how many toilets you have, & I seem to recall you hafta tell whether they're handicapped, or used by anyone handicapped, or something about as nosy. I could be confusing that with some other poking, prodding demand, however, as there were a lot of busy-body questions which are solely the concern of the resident(s) of the dwelling! I know that we are LEGALLY obligated to complete the census. But I wonder at the legality of such an intrusive piece of work. I will ignore this if it comes to my house, it is not their business.

Oh--I forgot to mention, these will be required to fill out MONTHLY, so they can get a clearer view of how we live...over time...along with the 10 year Census, as it's not current or "helpful" (or nosy) enough! !!!!!!!!!! Maggiepie FIGHT THE POWER!

Also, legally, we are only required to list how many live at a given address, as the Constitution established it SOLELY to determine how many people there were in a given district to determine how many representatives are needed to represent it. That's ALL. All the crud the gummint has added ever since is to decide who gets what pork where, & to grab as much control as possible through gerrymandering. Maggiepie FIGHT THE POWER!

I'm surprised that you just learned of this, Maggie. We've been b*tching about it on the political board for months now. This "survey" is beyond unreasonably intrusive. Personally, I have no intention of filling it out if one comes to my home or my rental nextdoor. In addition to what you listed it asks for specifics regarding mortgages, homeowners insurance policies and the value of the property if they were for sale right now. Like I'd have a shot in the dark of calculating that one! I'm in Florida where real estate values dropped to the basements we don't have a year or so ago.

I missed it because I don't hang in the political room much any more, having found it too restrictive & redundant, really. See my sig for my solution for that. You are 100% correct about how intrusive it is. And there's far more to see if you go to the links I posted--I simply don't have room to list the entire can of worms! Anyway, that'd probably fall under plagiarism. I figured anyone really interested would go see for themselves, so I only listed a few items as a taste of it. Not everyone will get one of these, but I'll bet I do, as I'm in a well-known "testing area" & I get boo-coos of tests, whether apolitical (think Nielsen ratings) or otherwise. As for things I'd not be able to calculate, how many acres does my complex cover? Who the heck knows?! This thing comes MONTHLY, too, as if we have nothing better to do! And they can try to fine me, but hello! Turnip here! No blood! No dollars!!! The nastiest thing (other than the fines) is that they promise to ask neighbors & relatives about you, a sort of spying, which might, or might NOT net accurate info. How dare they?! I'm chucking the stupid thing when it comes. Either that or sticking it in my cat's litter box for a day or so before mailing it back--unanswered in all categories. Maggiepie EVERYONE! GO TRY THE NEW CATEGORY: Open Mike!
