Your Generations

I'm going to a birthday party Thursday for a lady that is going to be 96. She is in great shape, lives alone, manages her own finances, does her own housekeeping and cooking. Her biggest complaint is the reaction of people when she tells them her age. Everyone expects her to be sick and dying. Thinking about age I realize how blessed I've been. I knew both great grand-mothers, one great grand-father, all 4 grandparents, and of course mother and father. It really is all about family. How many generations did you personally get to know?

well maybe people in that place don't imagine that a person's age 96 and still alive and kicking it's a good thing that a 96 years old grandmother is still healthy and your lucky cause i didn't experience that i didn't see my great grand father and my great grand mother in both side of my parents

It's great that she still is healthy at her age- not many people reach that age now. My mother is 97 and she is quite sick now- I have been able too see some of my grandparents when I was little too...

I knew all four grandparents and 2 step-grandparents. I also knew my great grandmother. I was also lucky enough to have known several of my great aunts and uncles, and to have met 2 of my great great aunts. They were twins, and I have a copy of a story they wrote when they were just girls, traveling across central texas by wagon, heading to Abilene, so my great grandfather could find work. They stopped at a little abandon farmhouse and there was a single rose bush growing there, the two sisters insisted on digging it up and taking it with them. One of my great aunts was the first single woman to have a home mortage in Dallas, back in the 30's this was unheard of.

The latest generations that I actually experience was meeting my grandparents (mother side). I was born when both great grandparents are already gone. Lucky for you that you get the chance to meet your grandparent's parents :) By the way, my grandmother just turned 90 last December. It was sad because she has alzheimer disease. She failed to recognize me the last time I visit her.

I knew only my parental grand parents :( I really missed my maternal grandparents. They are more loving it seems. My maternal grandparents expired when I was too young and I was not even in India during my childhood, so I do not have any memories of them either.

I have seen and enjoyed the company of both my Grand Parents, and Great Grand mother!!!Now I got a healthy friend who lives all alone in a Vally who is 85 years old. He plays a trick over their with localities, he never reveal the real age to them. There he is only 65 years old.

That is great that everyone is around to see the growth of the family. Most dream and do not have the opportunity to do so. The stereotyping drives me crazy. I mean if you think about it we are all dying from the conception. it is a matter of time and I personally do not keep track of it. Enjoy life with your family ,friends, and the heck with what everybody else says and thinks. happy Birthday to you great grandmother. Take care.

I have known my great grandmother in my father's side when I was young. Right now I still have my grandparents except for my mom's dad. In my mother's side, my grandmother is already 93 years old and she has great great grandchildren already.. I hope she's still gonna see her great great grandchildren from me :)
