Earring backs replacement

I know that almost everyone has this. Earrings that we cannot wear because the backs are missing. I looked online and saw that the backs are quite expensive, but am still contemplating on buying some for my earrings that have no backs. I wonder what other people do with earrings that no longer have backs? I don't want to sell them as scrap because the price will only fetch so much if you sell them as scrap and these are earrings that have been with me for quite some time.
