Pinoy Street Foods

Philippines

Filipinos love to eat. It is a well-known fact. Many Pinoys are fond of eating street foods like fishballs, kwek-kwek, kikiam, binatog, kikiam, chicken balls, banana cue, camote cue, turon, maruya and so forth usually found sold in the street. They are usually eaten during merienda (siesta or break time). Are you fond of eating street foods? Which one and why?

hi ajarvaise, I also love to eat street foods. Twice a week my friends and I usually buy these foods outside our school. We really enjoy it. Among these foods, the one I'd like the most is the 'KWEK KWEK' - an egg that was wrapped with an orange flour.

Yeah, same here...It's better to be careful than be sorry. But, sometimes it's really tempting huh? Especially if a lot of your friends are really buying and you're not the only one not eating...:)

i eat fishballs just when i crave for it but very seldom as i am also being careful with eating foods as such, you know, many vendors are selling foods just to make money and never care if the foods that they sell can cause many different diseases.

I also eat fishballs but I buy them from the market and make my own sauce. I used to buy before from street vendors, but because of health issues, I started to avoid even though sometimes I'm tempted to buy from them. It's better to be careful nowadays 'coz of many diseases like hepatitis and cholera. :)

I love to eat fishballs and isaws before. There was just a time that I was struck with typhoid and that stopped me from eating street foods. It's not that I don't want them anymore, I'm just being careful.

I'm sorry to hear that...No wonder you're careful now. If you really crave them, why not just buy them from the grocery store and cook them at home? It will ease your cravings...:)

The most food i craved for was Karioka, but it was not just a street food item you can buy in your neighborhood. I only go to one place to buy that delicious delicacy which is very chewy, crispy on the sweet coating and its really worth your money for only 15 pesos . I always buy it at Dell's Restaurant at Chino Roces Ave. near King's Court building 1. I have been away in the country for a year so I really missed a lot of street food delights. I also tasted Halo-halo at Chow King, then I also enjoy puto kutsinta at Goldilocks, siomai and kikiam at Henlin's. I am very cautious when it comes to street foods. So I see to it I buy those at reputable restaurants, stores and food courts. Happy Mylotting.

Karioka is good and is among the native delicacies that are made of malagkit. I also love palitaw, puto and suman...yummy. Like you, I also buy them from trusted stores or if they really are home made. Siomai? I go to Henlin's for siomai. I think their siomai's the best especially if combined with their chili sauce...This topic is really hunger inducing...:)

Hi ajarvaise,.. Yes, if you are a filipino, you definitely see these street foods everywhere and in any corner. :) ... I am not just fond of eating them.. Well, I have nothing against these foods, its just that I am not used to eating them even when I was younger. Have a good day! :)

I like all of them but I don't buy them at the streets for health concerns. I buy my fish balls and squid balls at supermarkets and cook them at home. I can make my own banana cue and turon if my children love to eat them for snacks. Except for peanuts which was my favorite snack when I was in college. I just love its garlic and chilly.
