If Someone Gave You An Immortality Pill Would You Take It?

I suppose there are pros and cons to taking an "Immortality Pill." By the way, I don't mean that such a pill would make you look younger. The idea is you take it from the age you are NOW and you stay that age...forever! How would you feel about that? For starters, there would be a problem with population wouldn't there? If the people who died could only die via accidents, wars or some kind of global catastrophe then there would be no room for us all, would there? Personally, I would love a pill that would make me live until, say, 80 years old, guaranteeing that I would be free of illness and pain during that time. Then, once my 80th birthday comes around my body automatically shuts down and I can drift off into an eternal sleep. I really should write a book, my imagination knows no bounds! Where did all this come from? I have no idea my friends but it would be lovely to read other people's comments on this subject of immortality, I'd be interested to learn what you all think of it.

No way! Life's hard enough, I don't need more time. Not that I'm looking to get out anytime soon, but no extension for me.

I'm sorry that you are finding life hard at the moment. I think most of us do find life hard, to be honest and everlasting life isn't very appealing is it? I do understand.

Yes, I do know what you mean as I've had my fair share of negative stuff happening to me during my life. However, I always believe in good outweighing the bad...and it can take some time but it's true. No matter what negative things life can throw at you something positive will cancel it out. Bit like Yin and Yang which I'm no expert on but you get the idea.

Thanks. We all go through ups and downs in life. It just seems easier to focus on the negatives rather than the positives. But so's life.

Hello, Janey. I'd like to stay as I am forever, because I an honestly say it's the best time of my life. Who gives a stuff about population? I'm fitter and healthier than I've been in years, I'm living where I want to, and the man I love loves me as well, so as long as he can take the pill with me, I'll go for it. And you keep feeding me tasty men, so I know everything's still in good working order. What's to die for?

Good morning, Janey. Yes, we should have made the move years ago. I have 3 types of arthritis, and in Cornwall, which is beautiful but damp for most of the year, I was barely mobile. Here, we live near the salt lakes of Torrevieja, and it's the healthiest place in the world for people with arthritis and breathing problems. I can swim, walk, and do all the things I couldn't do in England, and the diet is so much healthier - all that lovely fresh seasonal fruit and veg, and I don't need to take out a second mortgate to buy it. We bought a 2kg box of enormous strawberries the other day for 4 euros (about £3.50)and it fed us for 5 days. Oh, and I liked Geoff Tate the best - the lips swung it for me.

Awww Sandra, I'm so pleased you are the fittest and healthiest you have ever been. Good for you! It seems that moving to Spain has been the best thing you have ever done, am I right? God I'm envious lol. Well, if you ever want me to feed you more men, as you put it, I shall oblige. Question is; which one did you like best? Hmmm?

I'm sorry I haven't replied until now. Sometimes, not all responses (especially second ones) don't arrive in my inbox so I have to search for them in my discussions. God, I love strawberries, awesome aren't they? Glad you liked Geoff Tate's lips. I quite fancy feeding him some...right now lol.

Couldn't you have come up with the idea of this pill a few years earlier, when I was 22 or so. Just kidding. lol. But in all honesty, I don't think I would like to stay this age forever.. I mean till eternity. It is a scary thought. All my loved ones would get old gradually and I would not be experiencing life with them the way it is meant to be. Sigh! Oh but hun, you do have a marvelous imagination and I will wait for that book.

If we could make money off of our ramblings, we would be multi-millionaies.. None-the-less, I won't mind reading your book. What are friends for. Especially friends who will give me immortality pills. Yeah, seeing the world change would be very creepy. But then it would be an eventual thing. May be, it won't be that scary? Not sure. Hmm. Anyhoo.. Have a fabulous day my girl. Happy myLotting.

Haha! Thanks for that. I fear that my book would be full of ramblings and not much else! Your family could be immortal too if they like...and you have the option of popping your cloggs when you're 80...and the beauty of that is you could tell everyone in advance OR you could all just live forever. It would be scary seeing the world change...because it will, eventually.

i would reconsider if it comes with free board and lodging and some pocket money. Without those then it's a no for me. What's the use of living immortal if you just spend the rest of it working for a living

That's a very good point and worth considering! Tell you what; in my ideal world I'm trying to create...you wouldn't need money. The Earth would be Paradise, rather like in Star Trek (well, according to hubby that's what it's like so why some of 'em have to go exploring the Universe is beyond me lol) so there you go, problem solved. Paradise and Everlasting Life..unless you want to "fall asleep" when you are 80, that's another alternative of mine.

Hi, Janey. If there were such a pill, just as you said, could prevent you from any diseases and illnesses, suffering and pain, I would take it. Why not? But if it were just an immotality pill that could keep me alive forever, I wouldn't take it. I don't want to be like Edward Cullen, year after year studying in high school! LOL... And I can't afford to bear the thought of losing the people I love, leaving me alone in the world. Blessings!

All your family could take the pill too if they so wish my friend. Over-population is the problem I foresee being the biggest problem because I don't think everyone would want to die aged 80 like myself.

hmm..i'd want to read the fine print. if it came with body regeneration,i might. i'd hate to be 1000 years old and be living with god awful injuries or the like.

In my world if you had injuries you would die, as they would come from accidents. That is the only way anyone could die. Which, I suppose, is a bit like it is now although some survive. In my world they would not. I'm not sure why but they wouldn't and that's that lol.

Oh I think that could be tiring too especially if you'll gonna be old. But if I'll stay at this age it could be nice that could give me enough time to do all the things I want in life without hurrying too much. However, i would like it to have another function. I can dictate when should it stop and I can die peacefully.

Well, I have given the option of living until you are 80 (without any ailments) then dying in your sleep on your 80th birthday...and that would apply to anyone in your family, unless they wanted to live forever...as you could too. For me, 80 sounds better than living forever as I'd be frightened of all the changes in the world. The likelihood of something bad happening would increase the longer I lived so 80 is a nice age to die I reckon.

Perhaps immortality pills should have built in birth control. Choose one or choose the other...

That's a brilliant point Dawn. It would solve the over-population problem wouldn't it? I mean, I've never wanted kids so a pill to stop that happening (and everything else associated with it) would be ideal for me...and living until I'm 80, then dying. Oh, that would be bliss but would mean hubby would still be around. Having said that, the same scenario could happen anyway in "real" life.

I know what you mean about the end of the world. Scary thought isn't it? Having to witness that. Wouldn't be much fun. Over-population would be an issue too, you are quite right. I wish I could come up with the ideal solution for the world, but I can't. I have lots of ideas floating around in my head that I know won't come true...which is a shame!

No. Not right away. I will have to ask first how many of these pills are spread around and to whom. If some of these pills came to the hands of terrorists and the rest are babies, other than me, I'd rather be mortal.

This discussion is not to be taken too seriously but I do understand your concerns if, indeed this scenario was ever "real." You are quite right asking questions about it as you would want to know who developed the pill in the first place and for what purpose, right?

I won't take that immortality pill if ever one was offered to me. I don't want to prolong my agony here on earth. And what's the sense of living forever when everyone you love has all passed away.

A few people have misunderstood what I am trying to say. It is not just you that can take the pill, it is everybody. So, say you are 30 you could stay that way forever. If you had children they don't have to be told about the pill (unless you want to tell them) until they are older, then they - also have the choice of immortality OR dying on their 80th birthday, just like yourself and partner. Hope all this makes sense!

I think that many of us would love more time and be able to do more in this lifetime. It is a nice thought and to learn more and more things and have unlimited time in which to complete all your dreams and desires in life. That is such a nice little thought. I mean it just sounds amazing, probably not realistic but it you know some people do make it already to 100 and over. I think with proper diet and health/exercise I think it may be possible to make it that far without the pill. I know some people are more luckier than others but some people do put in the hard work and time to look after themselves too.

You are quite right; there are many people now who live a lot longer than, say 30 years ago. Pensioners with money seem to have a particularly good life because they can afford to go out and have fun. Poorer, older people may not want to live a longer life...so I shall give them unlimited supplies of cash so they can sort their health problems out if they so wish. Wow, I'm generous aren't I?

I don't think I would want to live forever, I mean, where's the fun in that right? You can no longer say that you should live your life like it was your last, cause you know that there'll be no last. Hehehehe. Anyway, I'm happy with what I have now, and I don't really mind dying. So No, I won't take the pill. Even if all my family has taken it. I think I'll be bored as hell if I took it. Hehe.

It's a really difficult decision to take. I don't like the idea of dieing, but the idea of living "forever" isn't specially attractive as the only way to die would be a horrible accident, and that idea doesn't really attract me. If it was a pill to obtain absolute happiness, I would take it without any doubt, however

If the pill stopped me from illness and so on, then yes I would take it as it would enable me to carry on looking after people in my job as a nurse longer than I would be able to normally.

I dont think i will take it if i will be the only one given, i mean if my loved ones wont be taking the same pill then id rather just have my normal lifespan. I mean its going to be a big deal seeing your loved ones dying one by one and your going to be left all alone. Its like the misery of those immortal beings such as vampires and other mystical creatures that i see in movies.I dont want to experience the agony of losing someones special all the time. Hey but this is just a hypothetical question and i have to admit i like it, the question not the pill lol
