my four-month old daughter is suffering from diaper rashes. she has all these red spots in her butt. i haven't changed the diaper brand we've been using since she was born, but now she has all these rashes. what do you think should i do? a friend said i can apply petroleum jelly but i haven't tried that yet. thanks for your responses!

My aunt, who is a nurse used petroleum jelly on my cousin when he was still a baby. She said it was to prevent diaper rashes, so it might just as well work that way. I actually try using petroleum jelly on light rashes sometimes and that seems to work well. The thing with petroleum jelly is the compound mix is very light so it would work best on babies since they still have mild skin.

The problem with petroleum jelly is that it's warm. The baby might be uncomfortable with it if the baby isn't in an airconditioned room.

Hi, whenever my daughter got some rases I tried to change her nappies often and left the nappies away for a few minutes so her button would get some air... It did help and I hardly ever put any cream on her nappy area...

There's a cream for that, I don't know what it's called in your country but it's called Vandol Cream or Desitin Cream here in our country it's a zinc oxide cream that is specially made for that. There are two types of Desitin, the cream or the gel, the cream works fast. I think you should try to apply those or the equivalent. It keeps babies from suffering from rashes and it has vitamin e that helps baby's skin heal fast. Here's a site for Desitin http://www.desitin.com/desitin-rapid-relief-cream
