as i said in yesterdays discussion i was meant to have a cortizone injection today for my tennis elbow, well the doctor who suggested it was completly full this week and on holiday next week,so i got an appointment with another gp,the only gp i don't like,so i went to see him and said what the other doc told me,he said i couldn't have the jab,as my elbow is only a mild inconvenience in my life, and i should use anti inflamatory pain relief gel,i said i'd taken oral anti inflamatories and tried resting it,but it wasn't working, that's why the other gp said to have the jab,,so i said, look i've had this for nearly 3 months,it's getting worse and it's NOT a mild inconvenience it's painfull 24 7,he still said NO,so i complained to my other doc,he was not happy that i wasn't given the jab,and that i was only given gel that wouldn't work anyway,so,he said to wait til he gets back from his hols and he'll give me my jab, bless my lovely gp hiss that other gp,he was going to leave me in pain for up to 10 months, which is apparantly how long it could take to heal,,hiss hiss, boo boo

I do know that the drs now aday tend to try all the other treatments there are first before giving anyone a jab and the reasons for this is that it is more cost effective to give out creams aswell as pills that a jab as all the other things are cheaper to the nhs.I find that they will try a low cheap strength first and then build their way up until they have no choice to how much money they spend.Sad but true.

keeping costs down is all very well and good, but the amount of money he wants to spend on gels and physio and stuff,it'd probably work out cheaper just to give me the jab, even more so as it's obvious that other treatments won't work

Hi doormouse. I am glad that your original doctor was able to give you what you truly needed that would make you feel better. I don't think that this other doctor really knew what they were doing. I can be skeptical of another doctor too. I would prefer to see my original doctor since they know all about me more. And for my kids doctor, another doctor will give my kids something totally different than what their original doctor would have given them. Sometimes alternative doctors don't give good advice when you need something to make you feel better.

you have to watch those cortisone shots, because when you aren't hurting, you tend to over do but if you know this and then get the shot, then its still up to you to take care of it, even tho it isn't hurting, it is still damaged.

I've had them in the past, and got told repeatedly to still take care of myself.

Wow... I'm really sorry to hear about your troubles! That seems very wrong that they would let you endure that kind of pain. I personally have never had a permenent doctor and do not exactly know your woes. Though it is very hard to get ANY kind of medical treatmeent with my circumstances. I've been told over and over again that my issues aren't even serious enough to be seen! How do they know? They can't feel what I feel! Same as they don't know your individual pain! I wish you the best of luck. Maybe if your insurance covers independent clinics you can have it done there. It doesn't hurt to shop around.

I'm in Colorado, so I don't think I'm familiar with 'NHS'? But here there are a few clinics that charge sliding scale, and some are free. It's all based on your circumstance and income. good luck to you.

HI..........all drs have their priorities and own ideas as far as a patient goes. He didn't know you and wasn't sure about you. Take it easy on him. He just needs time to understand your pain. hugs, quita

doormouse, I am sorry that you are suffering because of some childish and questionable doctors. I just want to add and seek that you look for another doctor to get an injection for your tennis elbow. I find no point torturing yourself unnecessarily. So, take care and I hope that you recover soon.

haha that doctor is so..... nevermind... well, some doctors really are like that, they tend to act as if they knew what you feel... i how wish he will feel what you feel and you were the doctor and then tell him he will just apply wax on it...
