Spending some time on message boards myself, and loving movies, i stumbled upon people that just cant accept how well the movie "Avatar" did both critically and financially. Those people, before Avatar was even released, spent MONTHS on the biggest message boards dedicated to movies, just to scream how Avatar would flop, how critics would hate the movie and blablabla..incessantly.. Then Avatar was released, critics loved it and it broke every box office record. You would expect that those peopel just stopped trying to talk badly about it when they were clearly proven wrong right? NO!Those i****s, kept insisting the movie was a flop.. Then it became the biggest success in history. You would think that the poor losers would stop at that point right? NO! Theyr started bragging that the only reason that it made so much money was because the added cost of the 3d. I think i carried my point accross..i dont care if people like or not that movie, inst it WRONG to distort reality in such way only to avoid admitting that you were wrong? Its just a movie for gods sake, you dont like it? FINE! But being delusional only because you were proven wronf is just pathetic, dont you agree?

So firstly Avatar is truly a magnificent movie, on a visual level with the use of technology to create a stunning visual treat. There is also no denying it is insanely popular and profitable be it because of inflated ticket prices or not. As such some of the claims that people make against Avatar are ridiculous and some may stem from the fact that director James Cameron had another stupendous hit on his hand. But what I have to disagree with is when people say it has a totally original story because it doesn’t. It’s the same basic storyline which has been used in many a movie and I am not just on about Disney’s Pocahontas. There have been many a movie which runs with the same idea and as such it isn’t original. This doesn’t detract from it being a good movie but one of my gripes when people claim it to be a great original story.

I agree with you, but what most people miss is that "the story" is not only formed by what you may call as the "plot", but also and in first place by how the plot is carried along. Avatar features a very predictable and unoriginal plot, but if you think about it the execution of it is almost flawless. The movie manages to keep most audiences constantly interested, i can assure you that that is not because of the visual feast. It is because of the brilliant pacing and because nothing in Avatar is self referential, instead every detail is meant to bring the plot forward. Every scene HAS a specific functionality that helps unravel the events. Then again, the events are banal, but who cares...the ride is great (no, i'm not referring to the visuals, even though i liked them too). If you count in how every scene is carried along, the way the camera shows you every element of the story, the pacing etc, i would say that the movie would stand on its own even without the gorgeous visuals.

As far as what I think it is, the constructive criticisms are tolerable. However, there are really harsh critiques out there whenever I come across on the internet, and it definitely doesn't get in sync with what I think when I watch the movie. It's not that bad at all, so to review it with a smell of insult is actually not good. But there are certain flaws in the movie, just like in other movies which can be improved...that's what I call a constructive review or criticism. I'm not liking those that breed on insults. But once a movie is out, there will always be good campers, bad campers and those whom are neutral; totally natural. Perhaps that's because Avatar is a blockbuster, and hence more attention is focused on it, and hence lots of positive and negative reviews too.

There will always be haters. There will! No matter how good a movie is, no matter how well-made, no matter how much critics praise it, and no matter how much money it makes. Now being delusional is taking things just a step too far. Accept reality. The whole world loves it and you hate it. That's okay! There's no need to insist it didn't do well when really it did. I'm not a big fan of Avatar. It was visually good, but I didn't really like the story all that much. I'm not going to be delusional about it though. It made loads of money and lots of people love it. I'm cool with that. It'd be a real boring world if we all liked the same things.
