i have been on mylot for almost two years and i have never given a best response to anyone.but from now on i will be marking the best responses to every post i make.but i will take into consideration only those responses which have come within 24 hours from the time i published my post.i guess the ones who respond to my posts perfectly deserve some recognition.so from now on beginning with this post i will be marking one of the responses as the best response.i hope i'm now too late in starting this system now.anyways,its better late than never.good luck!

That's a sad way of doing things. It does not allow those who only log on at week-ends (for example) to stand a chance to receive it. It is also not what myLot suggest. They advise us to wait at least a week before awarding it because the 'best' response could arrive a long time after the discussion is first posted.
You can still go and award them on all your previous discussions. They can be found in your 'unresolved' tab. I have some from over a year ago and when I awarded some really old ones last week, some were really surprised - they thought I had forgotten!

It is sad that you consider the advice given to us by myLot to be 'ridiculous'
There are time zones to consider when posting. You start a discussion when the other side of the world is sleeping and will not see it until they awake and then they might not log on for breakfast but later after a day's work.
There are many factors to consider and mylot thought of them when they gave us the Guidelines

waiting for one week is ridiculous.most of the mylot people post their problems which require fast solutions.also if you wait for 1 week means you are waiting you'll have to go through hundreds of responses.and most of the mylot users post more than 10 posts so i don't think they will have time to read thorough 100s of responses.and we do read it but in a hurry.we read the responses slowly and seriously when they are recent.for example:day before yesterday i posted that my best friends birthday was on the following day so i asked them to suggest a gift.few answered the question after the birthday was over.so the ones who answered it when needed that is before time deserve to be given more consideration.

In my opinion, both of you, antony2best and mysdianait, are correct. It's a case to case basis. I checked on mysdianait's link and I also pondered upon antony2best's response. Both have valid points.
Now, my question is, if I mark a response "best response" right away, is there any negative consequence for that action? Will MyLot punish me like I violated something? I want to know.

I usually try to go back and make a best response after a day or two. I kinda have my own system. I think it's good because I think we actually get a little money when we receive one! It annoys me though to see a brand new discussion and like only 2 or 3 responses and the "best" is already marked... not fair to everyone else!

but, what else can the starter do? There seem to be a mad rush for new topics. And, if the topic is not attracting any more responses, better resolve the topic rather than leave it unresolved. Agreed that it is not fair to the other responders.
however, Now it is my practice to search for no response topics only. So, the question of going to topics that are already marked with best response does not arise for me. HOW innovative I became.

well, a very nice offer. But, it is a tough decision, i presume. Please see that this sort of discussions somehow vanish soon. Because, I think, MYLOT admin will not allow topics which discuss about awards, best responses, etc.
Anyhow, I will be looking at you and your topics, just for learning what is happening around.
Meanwhile, All the very best for nearing your second landmark. 500 posts. You will soon be able to cut, copy and paste.

plagiarism in any form is deleted. However, you can quote from other sources. But, the advantage in cut copy paste is.. simple.
You can start typing leisurely in your own time, using any text editors. And, then, cut, copy and paste onto the mylot topics.

No we can't.
If we cut,copy and paste any content from the net that is not our own we must quote the source. Otherwise it is plagiarism which is an offense.

i really hate that part of it but it seemed like after i do them i earn some from it but not sure.. but some discussions get so many replies its impossible for me to pick!!

That sounds like a good system.
I only joined on Tuesday so I am very new to mylot but I am enjoying it so far.
I must admit that I have marked several responses 'best response' as the answers I got were answers to questions and really very handy.
I wasn't too sure if this was how the response system worked but figured that if a person's response was of help to me and answered the question then I was correct in marking it 'best', so I think I'm doing it right, I do hope so!!

ohh mine!!thanks for the link.i guess i should follow the mylot rules.i never knew about these.but i think this topic should be debated.what i have tried to explain is valid according to me.the 'best response' system should be fair.also,suppose we two are great friends and make a plan that everytime we post a topic we will mark each other's post as best response.thats also not fair.

Yes, people deserve to know how you feel about what they took their time to write to you about their thoughts to your discussion. Some people pour their hearts and minds out and into a discussion. They make sure that they give their very best to each and every response they give.

That's way too long, and it will have negative effect on u, if others were to find out, especially those whom might be aiming for one, or always wanted one.. hehe ^_^
BEst reponse should come from the best, but not given to the fastest responder.. It's not fair to others.. hehe

I can understand that you haven't done that yet. I didn't when I first joined Mylot. After I was in here for a bit, I started wondering around learning what else you can do in mylot. How it all works. When I found out we could mark best response, I went back to all the discussions I started, went through them all to mark best repsonse in each. After that was done, when I post a discussion I go back a day or two later and mark a best response.

I got many good response for my posting but i never received the response upto my expectation so i also didn't given best response to any one. But i feel it is good to select one of the response as best response to encourage mylot members. Yeah good luck to you too. Have a nice day.

Why haven't you ever given best response to anyone.I doubt that you have never received great answers which made you think of something or change your point of view.I love giving points to such people who I am sure are not here only to type something and earn some cent nut are willing to learn something to see what are other people's problems and give ideas about their solving.

Hmmm... I don't mark best responses also...
Well, there are many good answers yet it's sometimes hard to pick which is the best. It's very confusing. Sometimes they almost hit the bull's eye, yet, something is missing. You can't even supposed it is the best answer because somebody may answered it better sometime. :(
