there is a famous saying that goes that you are what you eat but i have been wondering if can apply to what you read! there is this report that is claiming that people are slowly shedding of the reading culture. no one is reading books today. everyone including our young ones wants to watch tv and play video games instead of reading. how many times do you read or what are you reading now? do you read for leisure or compelled to do so?

If I was what I read, then I would be Amish. I read a lot of Amish stories. I love how they live and how they believe and how over-all they are good people. They are simple and work hard to do the best they can. I love to read when I can. My kids are getting better with the reading thing. My sons like funny stories and my daughters will read anything like me. I love Karen Kingsbury, and mystery books. I just got a Bible a while back that I can read and understand. I wish the kids today would sit and read and play outside more than to sit in front of the video games all day long. I try to encourage that as much as possible and that's hard because we have so many kids. I will continue to try to get them to read more. I even told them that whole thing about going to other places in your book. My 7 year old actually believes she's in the land of Disney when she's reading. It's a good start!

It is a fantastic condition for reading to be in "other place of book". Yet, as we grow up, there are so many things crowded in our mind that it is really hard for us to be into the story of a certain book again.

i guess im lucky enough to have such love for reading. I still remember my highschool days when i'd go home with stacks of paperbacks in my bag and spend the whole weekend reading.I was a voracious reader, it's like thirst being quenched to me. but as time passed my interests changed a lot. From teenybopper romance (Sweetdreams, Sweet Valley High, Sweet Valley University, Harlequin Romance etc) i shifted to suspense (Christopher Pike, RL Stine etc) then i tried bigger and thicker books of Sidney Sheldon, Stephen King, John Grisham (he used to be my favorite). Now that im married with one child im more into Health magazines though i still read lots of books like the Harry Potter series and Twilight Saga, works of Dan Brown are great too especially The Lost Symbol. Reading will always be a part of me and im proud of it. =)

I love reading and growning up spend all summer reading and rereading all day all the time. Now I have a lot of books but don't do a lot of reading. There is so much other things going on. I would like to see today's kids move away from the tv, internet, videos' and more into outside activities and even reading. I have 10 grandchildren and only 2 of them are READERS! The others are not so into it, those that are old enough to read. I do agree with your statement 'you are what you read' it does stay with you. But it isn't just the reading, it is everything, You are what you watch on tv...that will effect who you are. Just like the video games will affect what you do. Everything we do has an effect on what we become and what we are.

I love to read, I read just about everything - boxes, instructions, signs, everything. I read novels all the time as well as some non-fiction. I do think that people have been placing less and less importance on reading. My oldest son loves to read also - although he reads more "intellectual" books than I do. My youngest doesn't read unless he has to! Maybe with these "Kindle" things people will be reading more.

yes i agree that the way of reading has changed. people are reading even today but they are not reading books. even what i am doing here , doing after reading. so you cant say that people are not reading but they have chosen another way of reading. i do this on computers. and yes i cant find the time of story books.

Well, I have Drood by Dan Simmons, Homeland by R.A. Salvatore and Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand on my nightstand. I read a lot of everything, though I have a whole shelf for Stephen King and one for Ayn Rand and political stuff, so I read a lot of what I like. ^_^

I do quite a bit of reading, because I thoroughly enjoy it. I mostly read the classics. At the moment, I'm reading Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte. I've read the first ten chapters so far. The book is captivating and enthralling. I do on occasion read book by current writers also, such as J. K. Rowling, Christopher Paolini, and Stephanie Meyer, and maybe a few biographies.

I love to read! I wouldn't give it up for the greatest movie, video game, or internet website in the world! I read 2-3 books a week, and several hours a day. I definitely read for fun. No one's forcing me to read. I really love it! Right now, I've just started "Wormwood" by G.P. Taylor. I typically prefer to read high fantasy, but I'll read anything that gets my interest.

even if I have IPod, I don't download ebooks.my Ipod is reserved for my music and videos.reading an actual book is different from an e-book.reading a book helps stimulate my imagination and help in improving my comprehension and spelling skills.I am a huge fan of Rhonda Byrnes' The Secret.I am applying the principles in the book with my personal life.

Good to see your discussion here, "What do you read?". Well, I can say I read when I need advise, as I feel books are great teachers, whenever I am in misery I go to my favorite teacher for advise who is named BOOK, I read when I have leisure, because of getting advise on how to make my life better. You can say I read mostly for betterment of myself. Yeah, sometimes I read for fun too, I read novels, comics etc.... But I like to read biographies most. As far as young generation concern, we can't say no one is reading. People are still there like You and Me who is fond of reading. You're right that many are there who loves to watch Tv or Playing games.

I watch TV and play video games But I do read. It's for me though because I don't know what books to read. I don't like going into the library and randomly picking stuff off the shelves. I prefer when someone recommends me a book of the genre I like. Such as when my teacher recommended "Angela's Ashes" to me :) It was an awesome read. I don't read many novels now... I've been reading heaps of stuff about biology and chemistry for school...
