Yesterday was hottest day

India
May 12, 2010 2:36am CST
Yesterday the highest temperature in my city Sambalpur in Orissa state was 46.6 C. this was highest among all places in the state, it was so hot, we felt like fried in oven. There were many cases of sun-strokes. I had set my air conditioner at 18C but temperature in my room never went below 31 C. The atmosphere is full of water vapor, it may rain any time. There is one relaxation, as per order of the government of my state; there will be no more power cuts from today. What is the situation there at your end, what is the temperature, do you have power cuts in rotation? Has rain started, please share. Happy posting, cheers, have a great day. Prof

It is too much for all of us here in the Philippines because not all of us have aircon. Our highest temperature so far is 37. I can't imagine myself being in that temperature I'm going to be roasted. We always complaining about our weather what more if we are in your country. We are still lucky compare to other country that we don't experience that temperature.

I stay in Bangalore, Karnataka. the temperature is bow going down since it started raining two days back. but another place, gulbarga in north karnataka has seen 46C plus two days back. in bangalore we have unscheduled power cuts. this is because since the year 2000 no power project has been taken up or started by the govt. the ones started in 2009 will go on stream in 2012-13.

While I sympathies with your condition., the temperature in Bangalore is also quite hot. "hot" is just an understatement. The cruel felling of trees, left, right and centre by the Metro Rail project has taken a huge toll not only on the greenery of my beloved Bangalore but also shot up the temperature by at least 2 degrees compared to last year. The frequent and irregular power cuts is only adding to our misery. Bangalore was once known as an "Air-Conditioned" city, but sadly it is history now.

Now, if you had asked about rain a month ago, I would have told you that it had been unusually dry. However, this month has not been the same in that manner. We've been unseasonably wet here for the first couple weeks of May. We had flooding two weeks ago and since then it has rained just about every other day. As far as the temperatures go, we've had some wild swings in the temperature. We've had some very hot days like today and some days that have been downright chilly like last Saturday.

Hi i think all over India was the same - hottest day. here in Mumbai also the Met dept said that it was the hottest day in 5 years for Mumbai as it touched 37 C hope the runs come on time and normal or above that in quantity as last year they were deficient and the city is facing acute water shortage and water cuts.

Waking up has always been a nightmare to me ever since summer started because I always wake up in a wet bed because of too much sweat.

Hey, Iam from Mumbai and its warm here as well. But i have heard that places like Orissa and adjacent places are in real bad shape due to climate. Here the climate must be around 35 degrees and it gets cooler in the night thankfully. Yes turning on the AC helps and also keeping yrself hydrated is also very important. I think after noon to say 4pm its the worst time to go outside and people shr really stay indoors or use cap, sunglasses or even a piece of cloth to cover their faces to protect themselves from sun burning. Cheers, Tutul

I cannot imagine how it was like when the temperature is nearly 47 deg C. Everything must be going up in smoke. In my city there was a period when temperature was 35-36 deg C, and there are many bush fires in the natural reserves. Our weather here was hot, wet and humid and the air was very still. It was almost suffocating. The rain came for an hour or so, with some lightning and thunder. It cooled the environment for a short while but it does not help to remove the suffocating feeling in the air. There was barely any breeze and the best thing is to stay indoors with the air conditioner on.

46.6C is unimaginable! That is extremely hot. In our country we have not experienced that high temperature yet. I think the highest is about 42 in the remote area while in Manila only about 39. Yesterday is comparatively cooler because according to weather forecaster the "El Nino" phenomenon (drought) has been broken down and in few days we would be expecting the rain to come again. When the rain comes it is another problem for it usually brings flood. Rain or shine, it is all problem for most people just the same.

Hi Professor! We have not started our really warm weather yet! In fact, our weather has gone backwards the last few days! Last night it went down into the 30 degrees! Today it is only in the 40 degrees! It should be in the 70's at least! And it is raining! We don't start getting really hot weather until mid June through August! So, we are expecting it here soon! I hope that you can cool off because I know how uncomfortable it is when it gets that hot! Take care!

It's hot in our area but it never reach 46.6 C. That's extremely hot. You're lucky that you have an air conditioning. I can't imagine the situation of others who don't have it. I really can't wait for summer to end. I hope people will start taking care of the environment to protect our ozone layer.

Forty six degress is very hot. I live in Chennai and till now it had gone till 42 degrees here. It happens during afternoon and by evening it will be back to 33 or 32 degrees. I know that it is very difficult to take when it is very hot. It is okay for me during weekdays because there is AC in office. I don't have an AC at home and it is difficult for me to take the heat. The rains will start only on September here.
