I got the idea of this discussion from littlefranciscan. Do you have a home rememdy for getting rid of the hiccups. I do and it is infallible. I had a friend in Ecuador who, when she got the hiccups they would sometimes last for a day or two. I gave her my remedy and they stopped immediately. It is really quite simple......drink a glass of water upside down backwards. That is. fill a glass about 3/4 full. Then place your mouth of the opposite side of the glass you usually use. then slowly bending down as far as you can trying to put your head between your legs drink slowly for about 30 seconds or until you have finished drinking the water. Do not straighten up before then. I told you it sounds silly and to many the first time is the hardest but once you get used to it it's a piece of cake.

Hi Gifana, your remedy doesn't sound silly to me at all, because I use a similar method that works for me every time and it has worked on everyone that has tried it for me. Fill a glass with water. Get a friend to hold the glass for you. Stick your index fingers in each ear and the use your middle fingers (or your pinky fingers) to pinch your nose at the same time. Then your friend will tilt the water to your mouth so you can drink it. By closing your ears and nose, it creates a vaccum and smooths out your diaphram. If you don't have a friend around you can use a straw.

The way we get rid of hiccups is you fill a cup of water and drink it while holding your breath. As long as you don't breath while drinking your hiccups will be gone.

just a glass of water works for me and there are no other techniques. and for babies, you'll just have to make them cry so their hiccups will disappear

Thanks for response. Whatever works for you go for it....As for babies...have none so I won't have to make them cry.

I have cured the hiccups this way many times. Another method I have used is simply taking a tablespoon of granulated sugar and holding it in your mouth for as long as possible. By the time you have swallowed the sugar your hiccups should be gone. This method works great for kids who are not able to drink water upside down.

This never fails either (and it sounds alot easier) Get a glass of water and a spoon. Put the spoon in the water and the end of the spoon on your temple and drink. Don't know how it does it but it works.

Thanks for response. Sure gonna try it just to see if it works so that I can pass it along to those who can't seem to get my way to work. I appreciate it.

Yeah, my grandparents used to try and make me do that to get rid of my hiccups. I always have them, born with them actually. True. I always ended up spilling the water all over myself and they laughed. For hiccups, if I can drink a bunch of water and burp or use a teaspoon of straight sugar, I can usually get them to go away. So you are honestly coordinated enough to do the upside down thing?

Thanks for response. Never had a coordination problem of any kind. Maybe its because I used to stand on my head a lot when I was a child.

I also have a silly cure for hiccups: you drink 7 little sips of water, one right after the other, without taking a breath in between. Works everytime for me!!

Thanks for the response. Just drinking a glass of water never worked for me. I'm not easily scared so I'm not sure that would work either. But then everyone is different.
