A lot of us may think that slavery begins yesterday but slavery was practice in the middle east before the ancient Israelites came on the scene slavery was regulated supported and sanctioned by the Old testament It was a common practice by christian scripture It continue in the new era in many countries around the world a few coucasion or Native American abolition of slavery began during the 17 century The abolition movement based on Jesus concerning love and equality for all person and the golden rules treat one another as you expect to be treated by others we are all one in Christ and we must respect and love each other like how Christ love us

Slavery was when human race began and till today though we have theoretically abandon slavery, we still witness it in daily life and this is worst to see. In every part of the world it is happening and yet being so religious nowadays people are abiding to it.

Hi willy6, Slavery dates back tens of thousands of years and yes the Bible not only speaks of it but condones it. I don't like the modern versions of the Bible where they use the word Servant for slave because the two words don't have the same meaning. Even in the New Testament slavery is not condemned except in the teachings of Jesus himself in the gospels and even here he doesn't use the word slave but teaches that we must treat all people the way we would want to be treated. The Bible should not be taken literally although many many church leaders want people to do just that. It's all about control. Blessings.

Well, I'm not sure where you get the idea that "a lot of us think slavery begins yesterday". Is this based on some survey that you read about? Anyway. Slavery has nothing to do with religion. Yes, people have used religion to justify it, as they have used religion to justify many things, but people abusing religion this way doesn't make slavery a religious concept. Slavery predates any religion you can think of. Slavery has much more to do with people wanting to have control and power by dominating others. this has probably been around since people have people around, and I wouldn't be surprised if the Neanderthals practiced it in some form. Slavery is an abuse of power.
