Are you afraid to spank your children in public or discipline them at home because of the law? Why?

Nope, not afraid at all. And I dare anyone to say something to me if I do discipline my child. It's my responsibility & right to discipline my child the way I see fit. I'm talking a spanking on the butt-not a beating or abuse. My 2 oldest(15 & 12) are kinda old for spankings, though does happen rarely. It's more effective to ground them from one of their favorite things instead, but they know they will get spanked if needed. My youngest(11 months) is too young for spankings. Every state I've lived in defines in the statutes that you have the right to discipline your child, and distinguishes between abuse & discipline. I personally think that's one of the main reasons kids/teens act out/are so disrespectful now a days, because so many parents are either afraid to spank their child or their against it for whatever reasons and use their "reasoning" methods. Sorry, my kids aren't in charge and don't run my house. Usually those parents are in such denial over the behavior of their kids as well. My ex step mother had the reasoning philosphy with my younger brother. He's now 16, and the biggest, most spoiled, disrespectful brat I've seen in a long time. And she wonders why he's so out of control.

I think you have this one exactly right. I hate it when people pass judgement on others for their discipline strategy. It's like if you let them get away with too much people judge you for being a pushover. If you are stict people look at you like you are mean. I think unless they spot ABUSE verbal or physical they should just go about their business and butt out. You raise your kids the way you want and I will do the same.

You sound like me... I discipline my kids as well. I see it like this - if you embarrass me in public I will embarrass you in public no matter who is present. They need to stay in a child's place and understand who is the adult and who is the child. And as far as other people passing judgement on me - if they do not write out checks paying my bills or buying for my kids then they do not have any say on what is going on in my household.....

No, not afraid. But spanking and a smack in the tooshie are two different things.
