Any dangerous bugs like centipedes that appear in your house?

Centipede - Centipede sex does not involve copulation. Males deposit a spermatophore for the female to take up. In one clade, this spermatophore is deposited in a web, and the male undertakes a courtship dance to encourage the female to engulf his sperm. In other cases, the males just leave them for the females to find. In temperate areas egg laying occurs in spring and summer but in subtropical and tropical areas there appears to be little seasonality to centipede breeding. It is also notable that there are a few known species of parthenogenetic centipedes.

Hello dear mylot friends, It is strange that centipedes should pay me a visit in my small kitchen for quite few times though I live on the fifth floor on campus. In most cases, they are found in the sink of my kitchen as well as my bathroom. But just a few days ago, one was found in my rice bag when I opened my bag rice. How come they arrive at my apartment is something I have to think about. I guess that they probably come through the water pipes. Centipedes can be very dangerous once bitten by them. Have you had any similar experience or case that I have experienced? Thank you a lot in advance for your response, my dear mylot fellows. Take care!

Deadly - We need watch for small but deadly scorpions.
I live in the high desert. We need watch for poisonous spiders such as the Black Widow and for small but deadly scorpions.

You too. Bugs are more scared of you than you are of them.

The one in your photo doesn't seem like a centipede. It's more like that hairy caterpillar that can cause rashes if you come in contact with the hair. Oh well...no biggie. Anyway, yes we get those centipedes too. Sometimes, scorpions however rare. My father almost stepped on a venomous snake when he was out walking in the backyard. He managed to keep himself still and waited for the snake to slither away. But I bet it scared the life out of him! We all have those cricket-looking bugs as well which they say are fond of going into the underwear of boys because according to many, it is attracted by the smell of that "zone"! Bad thing is it bites and causes a rather big rash,.

Cricket-looking bugs are awful if they love to go into boys' underwears. So I think that underwears should be carefully checked before wearing them.

Really? It freaks me out, but I am lucky that we don't have such a kind of species here in our region. I hope you did not have such an experience though.

No, they sneak into the genital region of a male. They're not just after the underwear!

With the coming of the monsoons, we’ll soon see millipedes walking all around though I must say that 5th floor is quite high up. I’ve seen them walking around in my 3rd floor apartment so I guess two floors up is OK with them and centipedes. However, the red ones that walk around here are ugghhhh definitely but absolutely harmless. The only problem is that you have to be careful that they don’t crawl into the ears while sleeping

It seems strange to me too, that the centipede is able to reach the fifth floor of the building. These creatures usually live in a habitat near to the ground level and seldom climb so far high up. It's highly possible that they move through the water pipe or the empty space between the walls. Fortunately we do not have this problem over here. I have only seen cockroaches roaming around sometimes. I usually will capture them alive and dispose them in the garbage box downstairs. May be you might want to consult the opinions of pest control expert to prevent the 'invasion' of the centipedes. It's risky to have them hiding indoor. Good luck and have a nice day!

Morning, cheongyc. You are right that the only those centipedes could get into my apartment is through the water pipes and they are usually seen in the kitchen sink and the bathroom where it is damp. Centipedes can be very dangerous to us once bitten by them. The picture shown in the discussion is another kind of centipedes that invades my apartment. Also the brown kind is seen more often in my apartment than the light-colored one...Have a good day, cheongyc.

Morning williamjisir, I suggest that you can install a net filter at the sink water outlet. So that the bugs can't get out from there. But you will need to do the cleaning regularly. Besides, the water outlet hole in the bathroom should be filtered as well to prevent these dangerous creatures from entering your apartment. I didn't know that there are so many kinds of centipedes, especially the one that look like a caterpillar . Happy posting and have a nice day too!

Hi, williamjisir. I think that my grandmother used to have these insects come out of her tub. They would just be sticking on the tub. It looks like a snail. I think that this is the same thing that you are referring to. If I see any of them, I will get rid of them as fast as I can. Be careful as you come near these insects.

Centipedes are bug eaters. If you have other bugs in your house, they will come after those bugs. Get rid of the food, and normally they will go away.

It sounds reasonable. That's why it is more often seen in the kitchen. I appreciate your nice comment, andy. Have a good day.

This is horrible to see this kind of bugs at home. There are not such kind of insects at my home. Sometimes I will see little cockroaches at my home and occasionally there are a few mosquitoes and that's all. If I ever see the centipedes, I think I will try all methods to get rid of them from my home. I love China

Hello youless. I am glad that you have never had centipedes in your home. There are a few times in a year they come to my apartment on campus. I am glad that I see them each time one gets in. Otherwise it is hard to imagine the result bitten by one. Have a good time, youless.

Eeeuuuuuwwwww !!! i hate those creepy crawlies, too... especially the ones that sting and bite like centipedes... i usually (but not often) find them crawling on our toilet wall or toilet floor.. so i think they must've crawled in thru' the pipes, or drains... (do they like 'wet' surroundings?) and normally the ones i've found are just tiny ones.. but they really move very fast, and it's quite a challenge to get rid of them.. i normally just 'throw' water at them and wash them down the pipe/drain again...

It is a good way to water at it all the way down the drain or pipe again. I agree that centipedes like wet surroundings. That's why they can be often found in such a place. Take care, friend.

Unfortunately, we have spiders. Lately, they have been the yellow garden spiders and then some. I've found a few brown ones. I am allergic to any kind of bite so this sucks. We have called the orkin man and so far we haven't seen a bunch around. I took a fuzzy pic of one that I took when running away from the computer. I will try and post it for you. I think ours has come from the weather warming up, and spring righ here! Hope you get rid of your problem. If you use a bowl of Vinegar under your sink, you will see less of them. They don't like the taste or smell of it. Good Luck to you!

Hello peedielyn. I am very happy to read your response that is helpful in getting rid of the bugs by using vinegar. I never thought of it and I think that it is a good idea to do so because it sounds reasonable. I will give it a try. Yeah, I dislike spiders and I always have some tiny spiders in my room. I have no idea where they come from. They always appear on one of the walls of my bedroom. A better way for me to get rid of them is to give the room a thorough cleaning, I guess. Also I wish you could have ways to remove those spiders with good luck. Take care, friend.

Yup i got centipedes here in my house. And also snakes living under our house. I don't know where the hell they come from and i want to get rid of them as soon as possible because they freaking me out. I can't sleep well at night because of fear of being bitten by a snake or centipedes while im sleeping. I call the zoo to get rid of the snake and i call my friend to help me get rid of centipedes.

I can understand that it is absolutely not safe to sleep when you know there are dangerous creatures in the house. I have the same feeling as you do. Take care, friend.

None dangerous but i do remember one night there was this strange noise in my room when i was 10. I turned the light on and saw this big creepy mantis in my turtle's terrarium and i was surprised and didn't even want to remove it because it wasn't a pleasant experience.
