Mangoes is one of the Filipinos' favorite fruits. We love green mangoes as much as we love riped mangoes. It is best served with bagoong (shrimp paste). I eat bagoong too, but I like salt or fish sauce more for green mango. It is often served with grilled food such as barbecues, grilled pork chops, grilled fish.. If you are not a Filipino, have you tried eating green mangoes before?

In the land of the United States of Americans where I am originally from, mangoes of any color are not popular. The first time I ever had a mango was when I went to the Philippines. To be honest, they're not as great as everyone says they are. Lots of hype on mangoes. But they are better than cantaloupe.

Yeah I've been to the Philippines. Best place ever. I'm going to move to the Philippines as soon as I can. I had the ripe one. My wife made me try it as soon as I got here, because I told her I had never had one before.

Here in the southern part of India green mangoes are as popular as the ripe ones. They put them in lentils. This is the season for mangoes and around this time most houses prepare hot pickles with green mangoes. They also prepare sweet pickles with green mangoes. The sweet pickle is made with a mixture of jaggery, salt, several spices and oil. These pickles are made now in the mango season and preserved throughout the year till the next season. There is another pickle made out of green mangoes which is mostly salty.

Both ripe and green mangoes are popular here. Personally I prefer green mangoes instead of ripe one. Ripe mangoes are delicious but green provide better taste. I usually cut them in small pieces before serve them with salt, shrimp paste and some other stuff. We also use green mangoes as an ingredient for a few local meals.

Nah, I am a Malaysian residing in Malaysia. Well I don't think our food differentiate much. Of course we have our own local cuisines but since we're in South East Asia, most ingredients are the same. We cook some food in most similar ways too right?

I saw your profile, and it says Malaysia. Are you Malaysian or Filipino living in Malaysia? Hehe.. Just wondering because you eat it just like how we eat it here in the Philippines. ;)

I prefer ripe ones to unripened ones myself. I don't think I have ever thought to have mangoes dipped in sauce, and I think I would avoid the fish sauce or shrimp paste. Sounds great with grilled pork chops though, I may have to give that a try some time over this summer. With Appreciation.

We include green mangoes in our diet in India. I belong to South India and we have numerous recipes for it. We prepare mango curry with onions and green chillies. We prepare sweet mango jam with jaggery. We prepare mango fried rice. Very famous is just having raw mangoes along with salt and red cilly powder. Dust in on long pieces of the mango and it tastes yummm....These are available along the beaches and in hill stations. I can go on and on about green raw mangoes...
