I want to seriously loose weight, I am and have not been happy with my figure since I had my son almost four years ago. I am about 50 pounds over where I would like to be. I cannot afford diet pills as I am having a financial struggle right now nor can I afford a gym or exercise equiptment. I do not sit around eating all day I usually have a cup of coffee for breakfast and then have something light for lunch and a better meal for dinner. I do not eat a whole lot at meals and dont do much snaking at all, I buy snacks but never eat them before they go bad. I need to loose weight for my own self esteem so can someone please give me some advice on how to do so without paying a penny out of pocket?

Here is what I did, and may I say I have lost 62lbs. First and foremost you can modify a few certain things. October 2009, I decided I had to do something about the way I was looking those days. I was still a bit on the good looking side but it was getting where I was getting bigger and bigger. I began to ride my bike in the neighborhood, but it was where I almost got killed by raving lunatic drivers. So I went to sports store and bought a home inside bicycle. Not just any ordinary one, but one with Jillian Michaels voice on an SD card, where each day is an increase level. Her voice controls the peddals so when she says let's bring that resistance up the pedals increase, so there is not cheating. Boy oh boy she whipped my tootsie, so she recommends you do 1/2 hour 5 days a weeks so because of the convenience of doing so indoors I would watched TV while I was doing so and never realized how quick it was. So I began doing it 1 hour every day for 5 days, in the interim of my working out, I began to drink water. Listen I have never drank water in my entire life and realized that wait, if out of habit I would guzzle ice tea, softdrinks and juices, why can't I drink water as well. It got where all I drank was water; don't think about just guzzle it guzzle it, and you will see that the colder it is the more refreshing it begins to taste. Ok so I was at almst a gallon a day. Wow, sounds like alot but really isn't and if you are working out you will find that your body craves it more and more. The other thing I began to do was just monitor my food intake. My entire life I was terrible at dieting, I would starve myself, I would binge and it was a rollar coaster road where I was thin for a year and chuncky for another, so my closet was filled like a retail store. You are probably wondering how can you afford a bicycle like that, well I had to sacrifice big time, it cost me $400 and believe you me that was a whole lot of money for me, but when I tell you my success story, I have lost 62lbs, and am able to eat 4 - 5 times a day and feel absolutely great, it has been the best investement I have ever made in my life. So maybe you can't afford a bicycle like mine, it's ok here is the moral of my posting, go everyday around the same time with your son and walk, walk then begin to jog, jog, drink water;lot's of it and in the mornings look at what you are eating cut it down, what I man if you normally have 3 eggs, 3 bacons and biscuit, cut it down to 2. So this way before lunch you can have another meal. Then at lunch cut it down some and then you are able to eat a meal before dinner as well. What I am trying to explain is tht you need to get your body use to eating at least 3 - 4 times a day, and believe me it will be where you won't be so hungry so the portions are easy to trim. So hope my story helps, my college son taught me all the above and I would not pay attention for 3 yrs and the other day he came home to visit and was amazed with my progress. He kept telling me, Mom who doesn't have half hour to spare in their busy schedule, Come on Mom 1/2 hour is over before you know it. 62lbs may seem like a lot but if you saw me you would see that they cam off in the right areas. So now out of habit, I still drink water, eat 4 - 5 times a day and ride my bike 1/2 hour 3 days a week and am maintiaining wonderfully. Good luck to you honey, you will definintly feel really great once you get started. Hope my story helps and feel free to PM with any qustions and or help along the way, as it is hard but the results er should I say you are worth it.

Thanks, I am very poud of myself and it certainly helps that when people see me and inquire how I did it that I get them motivated as well.. Many have begun to do the same as well. I only hope I can help with my story as it certainly helps to me to feel great when I know someone else does as well.

You don't necessarily need any of those things to lose weight. You just need motivation, to eat right (right portions especially), and to get some exercise in. The easiest & cheapest way to exercise is WALKING, of course. Around the neighborhood, at the local park, at the mall, and so on. Anywhere. Just getting yourself moving is a plus, it doesn't necessarily have to be hardcore. You could also consider drinking MUCH more water (the 8 glasses a day thing is good) - it raises your metabolism, and also makes you crave less sugar. You could also consider cutting out soda and junk food (which will actually save you money in the long run) and just stick to the basics, and buy a lot of produce that is IN season (so it's cheaper), and possibly try to spend less money on red meat. Besides, things like diet pills, exercise equiptment and gym memberships are all amenities, but even if you have them, it doesn't guarantee that you're going to lose any weight (especially the diet pills thing - 99% of those don't work anyway.) Anyways, good luck to you!

Yes, drinking lots of water is good too and if you drink it during a meal, you will feel fuller quicker too. I agree that diet pills don't work, I was on Xenical and didn't lose anything.

I too am in the process of trying to lose weight although I do have exercise equipment within my home as I cannot afford the membership cost for any gym. I think that the only feasible way for you to start losing weight is to start walking on a regular basis. This is free and won't cost you a penny and you also get the benefit of fresh air if you are walking in the countryside. I'm also trying to eat less by having smaller portions at each meal, I think this is the only way to successfully achieve loss of weight. I would still recommend home exercise equipment to you though and you can just purchase one machine at a time even it means saving for it, it will save you money in the long term. I have three pieces of equipment in my home and they help me to achieve aerobic as well as strength conditioning workouts. As a result I feel good inside and you will feel good too once you start exercising on a regular basis. The hardest thing about all of this is motivation so you will have to devise a plan in order to stay motivated and upbeat. What I would advise is that you listen to some positive music, something with a beat to it and then you can exercise to the rythum, this certainly helps me a lot. Stay positive and you will achieve your goals. It just takes a little work, not much, on a daily basis. Good luck. Andrew

Hi tickle_monster06, I am trying to lose weight to, as I have diabetes. What has always worked for me, is exercising in the comfort of your own home! It dosen't cost a thing! Do you have any exercise tapes or videos? I have alot of Denise Austin, whom I love. I have lost weight with her before and she is amazing. No equipment needed! She always says your body dosen't know where you are exercising. And it is true. Exercise and eat healthy and it will work. Good luck!

Yes go to your library and see what they have. I strongly suggest Denise Austin. She is so upbeat and positive and motivates you so much to exercise. I have learned alot from her. I don't know what happened to my health, but I have many conditions besides the diabetes. Thankyou for your caring words. Let me know if you find any tapes! I know how your financial situation is to, mine is not good to!

I have heard of a low carb diet before but not of a warrior diet. I will have to do some research to find out some more information on these. I appreciate your advice and willingness to help. I have also never heard of a bodyweight exercising either.

I am giving lots of advice, and I need to lose weight myself. It is hot and I am gardening. I eat less when it is hot, so no trouble. I am a lot older than you. Those are also the things that were effective when I was your age. I would tell you to play with your four year old. Take him to the park. Sit in the swing and swing yourself, pumping your legs; that is a good way to work your whole body and still keep up with your kids. Welcome to MyLot, have fun and enjoy your life.

Start eating a little bit of breakfast. They say that people who do that lose more weight and keep it off. Do not starve yourself, as then your body thinks it has to hold on to the weight to survive the famine. Increase fruits and vegetables. Keep a food journal. One online site that I see recommended is Spark People. For weights, save two milk jugs, fill them with water. Half gallon is a four pound weigh, gallon is five pounds. Experiment with things you have, people lost weight long before there were pills, and gyms etc.

Thats funny I had never thought of using milk jugs for weights but hey it sounds like something that just might work, provided the lids don't pop off and soak me, lol. Who knows that might help to cool me off! I will definetly have to give that a try tomorrow. I am going to do something I dont normally do and that is start my day off with a nice walk tomorrow and depending on how things go I might even take another one tomorrow afternoon before bed too. I am serious about this so I am going to give it all I got starting tomorrow! Thanks

Go for a walk every day and make sure it is at least 45 minutes long. Also you can use cans for weights. Substitute first 2 percent milk for whole milk, then go to 1 percent and then to fat free. Do the same with yogurt. Increase the salad stuff, and the veggies, decrease salad dressing that have milk or cream in them. Do the same with soup. Cut out the cream of soups. Have 6 meals instead of 3 a day. Oh and if you take chromium that is found at your grocery store or your local health store, it works in the insulin in your system if you have metabolic syndrome. It does take time, and if you are br*st feeding your baby, it is easier and the weight will come off quicker.

I know someone has already suggested walking, and that is my suggestion also, or swimming. Both are very good exercises, even if you're just walking around in the water. If you think about it, if the water is waist deep, it's not that easy to walk because you are pushing against the water, which makes it a good exercise. Don't make your BIG meal the last one of the day. Have either a more healthier, fuller breakfast or lunch, and save your dinner for the lightest one. This way during the day you can burn off what you ate. Towards the evening, you're getting tired and won't burn it off as easily. Eat healthier, watch your fat and high calorie content. In between meals you should have small snacks to get your metabolism going. Vegies (any kind), yogurt (don't have to eat the whole thing), just something lightweight BUT healthy. If you don't eat, you won't really lose fat, you'll lose muscle, and you don't want to do that. You need to keep your metabolism kicking in, that's what makes you lose weight.

Thanks for your suggestion, you are right about the swimming thing. It makes since for me to eat my bigger meal for lunch and a lighter one for dinner. I can't stand yogurt though there is no way I could even eat half of one. I don't really like vegies either but I guess I could eat some grapes or something like that, an apple maybe.

HaHa, yeh, Yogurt is not for everyone. I think you need an acquired taste for that as many people don't like it, but it is very good for you. No vegies either? None, no raw vegies you like? There has to be one you like. Do you like salad? Fruit would be fine too, it's just a matter of snacking on something "small" in between meals to keep your metabolism up. As long as your body feels it's being fed, it can work properly for you to lose weight. And your lunch meal should be very healthy too since that will be your bigger meal of the day.

generally speaking, you don't really need pills, gym or any equipment exercise to lose weight or stay in shape, what you only need is STRONG DISCIPLINE, MOTIVATION and DETERMINATION, the most important in losing weight is diet (choices of food, timing and frequency) try a diet that is low in carbs but high in protein and don't forget to have good healthy oils like extra virgin olive oil..eat 5-6 SMALL PORTION of meal every 2 1/2 or 3 hours...you can also do simple exercise like walking or 15 min. stationary jogging or jumpping or climb the stair back in fort for 10 min.

The most important thing in loosing weight is discipline. It is really hard to loose weight. You must keep a goal or set your mind to a certain or specific objective that you want to achieve. Always do exercise and have a balanced diet. Just avoid too much fatty foods and drink lots of fluids too.

Should I drink nothing but water or is tea o.k. too? I like to drink a couple glasses of tea a day and water at night. Is this okay or should I switch to nothing but water. My aunt said that she went on a water diet on time where she drank nothing but water especially when she got hungry and she said it worked?

Hi, try to eat ripe papaya fruit everyday and drink at least a cup of green tea. It helps out with digestion and accompany it with stretching and walking for at least an hour a day. You'll see the effect in 2 weeks. I've tried it.n

It’s a good idea to have an idea of the calories that most food items have. If it is a packed thing then the label is sure to have the calories that the substance has.

The simplest way to reduce weight is change the eating stuff. Don't eat much rice, quit eating cheese, butter, meat, eggs, chicken. You can eat fish. From eggs just eat the white part, don't eat the yellow part. If you wanna eat bread, eat by roasting it. Also the structure of daily eatables should be like this. Have more eatables at morning breakfast, less than morning breakfast for lunch and every less for dinner. Also try to go for brisk walking atleast 1-2 miles per day. This will surely bring down your weight.

ok you are the first to say no cheese, seriously tell me your kidding. I love cheese. You dont have a pesonal vendeta with cheese do you. I dont know how to eat without cheese. I also hate fish absolutely no way can I eat fish. I am going to start walking in the mornings and evenings starting tomorrow, so hopefully that and me drinking water, eating fruit, and now cutting back on cheese will help me to get to a more comfortable weight and size. Thanks for your help even though I didnt really like it, lol

I never had a sister, but you sure sound like me! Except for your age and having a baby, I could have written this. Don't waste your money on diet pills, they will mess up your bodies organs, and you don't want that. I don't remember the ones I took a very long time ago but I could feel my kidneys hurting. I quit taking them and the pain went away. I think you can drink the tea, without sugar, or a substitue,(sugar substitues are not my thing). My youngest daughter is really trying to loose weight and she is a walking "don't eat this" magazine add!!!! She has it all memorized and I know she drinks tea. I drink ICE WATER, I have gave up all pop, but am a disaster with the lemonaid and orange juice!! Somewhere I read drinking ice water will help you loose weight because your body burns calories to warm it up..... I am not a fresh veggie person either, not very well with fresh fruits. I am a meat lover and I have switched 90% of my meat to turkey and chicken, do away with the skin and fat (boneless skinless is the best) We are eating turkey burgers and I have made meatloaf and spaggheti out of the ground turkey. I don't buy smoked sausage anymore, I get the turkey smoked sausage made by Butterball. Also they have 'sausage links and patties. My daughter says there are turkey hot dogs that are better then regular hot dogs. I haven't had them yet. I have a brand I like and if I can't have them I don't eat hot dogs. I buy the ice cream that is 1/3 less fat and sugar, I can't tell the difference in it and the regular. I read your post somewhere about the cheese, I understand, I love cheese to but you can get 2% cheese and fat free cheeses. YOu may have to buy different brands until you find one you like, but I promise there are some out there that you can't tell the difference on. So if you change your drinks, and diet and add walking I think you will loose weight. My daughter has done this and has lost about 3 sizes since fall. Best of luck to you.

Running is the best way to loose weight and it's absolutely free. Forget the tredmils and run outdoors. Even just 6 minutes every day will do you great.

Turn on the radio, stereo, or whatever music player you have, and dance for half an hour. Any exercise is better than nothing. Exercise has always worked for me in losing weight. Cutting back may be good for some, but it doesn't always work, especially if you easily get hungry. Like the others said, walking is great. Good luck!

I lost loads of weight at the start of the year. I swapped my usual lunch for a tin of fruit, which I could pick up at the supermarket for next to nothing. I stopped snacking unecessarily, and still ate the usual evening meal that my other half cooks. Search youtube for '8 minute abs'. I did that each day and got flatter abs in about 3 or 4 weeks. Good luck :)

I love breakfast foods and it's a good way to start your day with something healthy with your breakfast like fruit. I also eat sourdough bread instead of white or whole wheat bread. It has less sugar in it than the two other breads. I have a small apartment but I make a little space in front of my computer and put down a towel or something and start doing some stretches. I have also been doing taebo from videos up on youtube. I don't have a tv but if I did I know there are plenty of exercise/yoga/pilates channels. My favorite for yoga is called Wai Lana Yoga. It's peaceful and puts less stress on your body (taebo is pretty stressful :-) Don't get discouraged though once you jump start your metabolism again it will get easier but sometimes it takes a while to get there. I also try not to look at my scale too much anymore. It's discouraging because it's almost like you expect results in a day which doesn't happen. The numbers don't help either if you're putting on muscle and losing the fat because muscle weighs more than fat. Once you start exercising though you might need to eat more to keep up your energy and to stay healthy. GOOD LUCK!!

As much as people say it can't be done- it can! Eat on a hunter-gatherer diet. Nothing packaged, because these have lots of carbs. Low carbs means lots of weight loss. Eat things like veggies, nuts, and berries. (Only berries)You can eat any kind of meat you like and any kind of cheese (no processed cheese, like Kraft. Only deli)You can even eat butter. Nothing that comes in packages, like I said. No bread. Go for a run in the neighborhood, walk around at the park wit h your son, play sports with him. If you do this, you will see a dramatic change, trust me. All you have to do is keep up the tough discipline and stay on this low card diet (i.e. hunter-gatherer)!
