..... the word vodka has been known since the 15th century and is most likely a derivate of the word voda( water). It is thought that liq aquavitae, was first brought to russia in 1934 by genoese merchants on their way to lithuania. They travelled trough Moscow, where they had an audience with Prince Dmitry Donskoy just after his victory over the Mongol Tartar army. Flattered by the hospitality of the moscow governor, they gave him vessels with the above mentioned spirit as a present.
