Why do we persist on gambling ?

Las Vegas Casino - Las Vegas the mecca of gambling casinos in the USA.
No-one evry REALLY wins apart from the casino owners. When the chips are down we chase the win and probably lose more.

Are our lives so boring that when the chips are down we NEED to gamble to add excitement ? Horse racing, casino, cards, slot machines, bookies, lottery draws ! No-one every really wins, the odds are stacked against it, but we still do it

Most people dont' mind parting with a little bit of money for the chance to win ALOT more money. Only problem is people part with more money than they win. My hubby always says if you don't play you can't win... We're still waiting on that "WIN"

I couldn't say, Haddowz. I don't gamble. I've never gambled. Not with money, anyway. Almost all of our decisions are a gamble but they can't be avoided. Money? No way I'd chance losing my hard-earned money! Maybe that makes me a weenie, a ninny, but I've seen too many people go broke because they gambled away their money. My ex husband used to buy at least $10.00 worth of lottery tickets every week. Sometimes, that amount went up to $30.00 a week. The most he EVER won was $25.00. He was bragging to anyone who would listen about his "big win". I'd say he spent thousands of dollars to win that measley $25.00. I guess, for him, it wasn't about the gambling as much as it was the winning because he didn't seem to care that most people thought he was a fool for wasting so much money. He lived to win another dollar. Idiot! Me? I've made a few bets but they were with idiots because I KNEW I'd win. You know the kind... "I'll bet you $5.00 that..." A couple of times I knew the answer and couldn't convince the person making the wager that he was wrong so I took the bet. Of course, I got the money. But, I won't do that unless I know for sure that I'll win. I'm just not into throwing my money away. Maybe it's because I'm too frugal. Oh, I'll spend money on a nice vacation or a special treat every now and then but if I know I could just lose the money without getting a thing back for it, nope, I won't do it.

I not big on gambling. I will however buy some scratch off tickets and when the lotto is up really high I will play the numbers. But other than that I am not so keen on gambling. I prefer to keep as much as my money as I can. I dont have it to waste in that manner. Maybe if I had more to play around with I would. But its just never been an interest of mine.

Sadly it seems that the people with the least spare money, gamble the most. Always chasing the dream.

The odds are definitely against the gambler. I do enjoy a little poker and when I went to Las Vegas, I played a few slot machines. I am not much of a gambler but I do indulge sometimes.

Men are majority in games. Explanation of specialist: in genetic structure they have one gene for competition Men do not bear the defeats and must always have "a fight" ,a challenge

So what you are saying, (I think) is, only men gamble as they see it as a challenge to prove themselves right or better. Women enjoy a challenge also, and can be just as competitive as men, dont you think, or is it an alpha male type thing.

Men need to earn money because they like very much. Men do not stand shopping. Women need to spend money made by men (not like to spend but...they are sacrificing

Ah but it's the possibility that you might win and the occasional actual win that sucks people in...

Well I guess the question should be why do some people feel the need to gamble. I dont gamble and when or if I do its purely for entertainment and fun, but some people become addicted to these seemingly harmless gambling games they thrive on the thrill of winning big. some start out just playing for fun and they soon become so stuck on winning that it becomes a problem for them, because some people have addictive personality's and are prone to becoming addicted to things that others aren't. thats my theory and I'm pretty sure that its close to the truth of why some people are attracted to gambling so much.

I think I have figured out the reason. People see the need to add a little excitement in their life. A little challenge, a little danger, even if the odds are heavily stacked against them. They need the excitement that they feel a normal life does not give them. Therefore, they gamble, because it gives them a rush that they cannot get from day to day life. I don't think gambling is the smartest thing to do. Of course, I guess I take gambles with my life every day, taking on projects that might not succeed. However, the one risk I will never take is with my money. Still people do it every day, for a variety of reasons. Maybe they think they will strike it big or maybe they just get a rush of excitement by doing it. Perhaps that is their idea of fun. I don't think losing hundreds or even thousands of dollars is great fun, but whatever floats their boat.

Is gambling the only way out when the "chips are down"? I don't think so. Gambling your way out of tight fixes would most often make things worse. The odds in gambling are not always in one's favor. You may go to the casino for the entertainment but making it you bread and butter...? I guess at the end of the day you'll find yourself in deeper #*%?+% than ever before. I myself gamble if and when I have gambling money to spare. But if I don't, I won't go to the extent of borrowing for the sake of gambling.

Every individuals life is designed by the creator in an orderly manner.Because I have seen and studied many life's nearby and came to the conclusion that any thing happening to a person happens perfectly and in time. Please observe foo a week in your vicinity with a keen observation you will surely know the results. The gambling's you mentioned are also in the same way - only played either to pass time and fulfill one's desires or with a bent of mind to earn.

It's because of the possibility to gain big money i guess.

Do you not think that the only way to gain big money is to work hard in life. Does a gambler never stop and ask him/her self why so many people work for a living compared to the number of people who gamble . Saying that some people think gambling is actually a job which they learn, it's a strange way to think if you ask me. Have fun.

They are the type of people who are stuck in the circle of addiction. No matter what they do or win they still cant see they are dragging everyone around them down with them. Some people are brought up by family in this situation, where they see gambling as the norm or second nature. Others fall into the addictive trap because of a voracious desire to be seen as a winner and wealthy, which was probably never in their character to begin with.

Yes, the best way to earn money is to work hard in life. However there're kind of people who (maybe they're called lazy) don't work and act like a leech who suck their family (husband, wife, son/daughter, etc) money which earned through hardwork and spent it on gambling. When they win, they will use it on party and not coming home until they lose their money. When they come home, they will take the money again.

Haddowz have you not heard the old song High Hopes, I have High Hopes, Pie in the Sky hope? we are always hoping we will be the one in a trillon to win the lottery, or the dog race or the slot machines. Its the human in us that makes us take risks of winning something that has odds so high that your proability of winning is too high too even calculate. Of course if we take this to excess where we are making our family go into horrible debt we are then addicted to gambling and need mental help at once. once in a great while I will drop a dollar into the machine for lottery tickets and have won a few things like two dollars or five dollars but I said once in a great while. this is just for fun. i refuse to g amble at all.

I think because we always have that thrill and excitment at the thought of actually winning, and I think that we kind of believe in a way that we will win something, if not a big amount, but something at least.
