I've made an appointment with the dentist to have a tooth that's been bothering me checked out..what works for you as a stopgap measure?!

I'm actually quite lucky, I don't think I've ever had toothache. However, my partner has had really bad tooth ache, because he needs work doing. I bought some Clove essential oil, which he can dilute with water, gargle, then spit out. Apparently it does work. It tastes disgusting though.

I found some in my local independent chemist, maybe you could try one of those, or maybe a herbalist. I do normally buy my oils online, through a trade website, you could try this: www.purpleflame.co.uk I think they have a non-trade bit too.

Someone at work suggested a whole clove in the gumline of the affected tooth..it numbed it a bit! :)

I hear good things about clove oil as a tooth remedy, but have never tried it-was in the 24 hour shop last night, and couldn't see anything like it!

Try taking some paracetamol. And sometimes the dentist won't pull out a tooth when it aches. He would ask you to take some antibiotics to reduce the swelling first.

I wanted to get an appointment ASAP,but they told me the first opening was in Late August! This tooth will need treatment sooner, rather than later....

I got into a bit of a catch-22 situation over the antibiotics..I phoned the dentist to ask for some as my gumline had swollen at the site of the affected tooth-they said they wouldn't prescribe for me until I'd had my first apointment with them-(See Above!)And the swelling wouldn't make them budge on bringing the appointment forward,either..so my next call was to my GP's practise, whose receptionist tried to pass me back to the dentist! They gave in,and sorted me out for a prescription,so I'm now midway through the course, and the swelling has abated, and the tooth's more comfortable..haven't needed painkillers since!

I have been suffering quite recently with toothache and I use clove oil on my tooth and then rinse and that really helps take away the pain! x

Take pain meds after extraction of tooth, and cold compress will do and a good rest.

I'm still in the "Before" stage, and hoping it doesn't need to be yanked out when it comes to it,but thanks!
