We have all had our fair share of compliments in our lives. Some compliments are more deserving than others. Still, we are accepting of the compliments we get. If someone gives you a backhanded compliment, do you still think it is a compliment?

well yeah i guess it is still a compliment... life is full of surprises.. and i would love to know that that person is surprised that i am better than what he/she thinks... i would love to take it that way... and from that, he/she will know that i am not the person he/she thinks to be.. lol

If it's more to sarcasm than compliment, I'll probably snapped. We can differentiate well whether it's true or not. But, I am never the one that take compliments well. I often see them as teasing or just being sarcastic about something. My friends do that a lot. Of course there are some who give genuine compliments and I will accept it.

hi sender621 ues and no , if its one of those where a person is complimenting a person with you, then just casually says to me."oh your hair is nice too" no, that was about as sincere as cold butter on a ]hot day not melting. no I do not even acknowledge it at all.not thanks. why thank someone for saying you hair is nice in a phony smuggest voice. to me a compliment is given directly to me as a person, not as an also ran.back handed means I had to be polite as this person was with the one I complimented so I must be polite to the poor homely soul.

Thank you for the witty response, Hatley. Your comments on this are greatly appreciated. You just never know how you should really take a compliment, do you?

Hey sender! I don't really think that a backhanded compliment is really a compliment at all! When you think about it it is more like an insult wrapped in a "sort of compliment"! So does that make it an actual compliment? Not really sure about that! Great question though!

In fact, i find it hard to regard backhanded compliment as a real compliment. But i still say "thank you" in such situations out of politeness.
