Currently I've been using the same desktop computer for three years now, but I've been working towards getting a laptop computer because like many other people I need somthing more portable. With that said I've learned a lot about computers in my three short years of using them, and all that I've learned so far has been self taught meaning I pretty much had to learn everything by myself, and through watching youtube or just guessing how it works thank goodness I'm good at fallowing instructions lol, but when it comes to things like IP addresses I'm still a bit ignorant about things like that, so forgive me if this question seems stupid haha I honestly need to know for a good reason. Here go's ya'll if I get a laptop computer will my IP address change or stay the same? and are IP address based on home or residential address and or locations?

The IP address will not be affected by whether you use a laptop or desktop. The IP address is assigned to the telephone line by your ISP. The ISP may provide a dynamic IP address which will change each time you connect irrespective of which computer you are using, or they may assign a static IP address which does not change. In many cases you may select which type of IP address you prefer to use. If you decide to use both desktop and laptop via the same router then the router will assign different internal IP addresses to each in order to identify them, but the external IP address used online will still be the same.

If you change your ISP then your IP address will change because the one that you are currently using is allocated by your ISP. If you keep the same ISP then you can even move to another address and request your ISP to move your connection as well, this way you would still keep the IP.

I think its based on ur residential area. Your computers ip address changes when u move from country to country.

Every ISP is allocated a group of IP addresses to issue to it's clients, so each IP address is ISP specific. I use Plusnet as my ISP and the company is based in Milton Keynes in England. This means that I could move to another address several hundred miles away and keep the same IP address, but as you rightly point out I would not be able to keep the IP address if I moved to another country.

you can use different ip if your isp enable dhcp server. lets try it go to run command type cmd then enter. In cmd type "ipconfig /release" then wait to release and then type ipconfig /new and press enter. if your isp provide you dhcp then ur ip changes.have a nice day

Your IP address doesn't change if your internet service provider , or ISP as it's popularly called has a Static DNS server address . If it's a Dynamic one then you would be generated a New IP address whichever is free from the pool of IP addresses that your ISP is allotted , every time you start a new session . It's based on the ISP and his network location , which would most probably be your location also . Hope this Helps !!

Yeah IP address wont change unless you want to change it and you get a new IP. If your ISP is shared throughout the house than your IP address through out the house is the same.

IP addresses are based on where you are connected to the internet, geographically. It has nothing to do with the computer you are using. If you change your computer but are still using the same method of communication to the internet, in the same location, THAT is the IP address. A "network" of computers all using the same internet connection have the same IP.

Your IP address will not change. The number is connected to the service provider and not your computer. IP addresses are based on locations and countries.
