Just How Many Dogs Can You Take Care?

Hey Dog Owners!
I just read this crazy crazy news on the net. There is this couple who has 50 toy dogs! They are all over their house and since they have shihtzus and maltese and cross breed between both they cannot groom and bathe all of them. A concerned neighbor phoned in the police and the police upon inspection thought of this as a case of animal neglect. Although the couple denied that because according to then they do all the best they could to provide for the dogs.
But my goodness 50?! I just turned down 2 Boston terriers because I have 4 already and it's a lot of work but 50 and all hairy ones?! I would think about it a gazillion times!

The couple that you are referring to that have 50 dogs may not be intentionally neglecting the dogs, but they could very easily be considered to be animal horders, or collectors. There are a lot of people that are in this boat and though they believe that they are fulfilling all the needs of their pets, there are things that aren't always reached because there is so much demand that is placed on people that have so many different pets.

Hi girl,
thanks for dropping by. You gave the correct term animal hoarder. Well I remembered the police let them go and did not file animal abuse but then the judge ruled that they could only keep a maximum of 4 and the rest be adopted. A whole lot of demands that's for sure.

I must agree with the police on this one, 50 dogs is more than our pound will care for and give the amount of care that each dog needs. To care for fifty dogs of any breed would take a home of at least 30 rooms and without help no one can give the proper care.
Even though they "do the best they can" it may not be enough for the well being of the dogs.

Hi Manley,
Glad to be seeing you in here. Yup you are right no one can properly care for 50 dogs and all long haired ones unless they have 50 hands or they have super powers! I feel they are only thinking about themselves instead of the welfare of the dogs. I am glad the dogs were placed for adoption after being checked by the local animal shelter vets.

Oh wow, 2 is enough for me..Don't get me wrong, but I find that when I am with just one puppy, she listens so much better than when her sister is with us..So more than that would drive me crazy..

Thanks for dropping by. Yup 50 is a whole lot lol drop the zero and just maybe 5 will be okay. But fifty hahahaha that's for the pound!

Thats really make me wonder. I have a pet dog, but he is so naughty that 24hrs is not enough for me to take care of him..50 dogs..i need 24*50 hours??!!!

I know what you mean mine too is giving me a headache. Please see my latest post on what she did today that almost gave me a heart attack. I would not know about raising 50 on my own as well.

Really 50 DOGS ? Where did you hear the news (website) ? I think i could have 2 dogs (Thats enough for me and my house isnt big for more). One good thing those 50 are toy dogs.... Think about owners who own large dogs.... That would be just imposible...

yup 50 dogs. I could not remember which website sometimes I just surf but do not take notice what website it is. I guess you need a farm if you have 50 large dogs! lol

I surely think that their house stinks. You can't care for 50 shihtzus all together. Maybe you can feed them all but you cannot groom them altoghter at the same time. In my experience 1 shihtzu takes about an hour and a half to groom sometimes 2 hours. 50 shihtzus will require you to give 100 hours and we have only 24 hours in a day and just how many shihtzu can one accomodate to groom in a day?

I have here 13 dogs, all are large breed.I am a doberman breeder.And now I have 9 puppies they are just 7 days old.

Hi Elle,
I guess you have all the help you need to care for your dobermans. They have short hair and easy to maintain but shihtzu is a lot of work especially if you let them grow their hair. Oh just curious Elle I never had a doberman before because I'm kinda scared of them, could you tell me more about the breed other than being the kind pf vicious dogs portrayed in movies or as we see on private property?
