What is your take on personalized license plates?

Here in VA we are known as now (bumped California) the state that holds the most personalized license plates (1 in every 7 cars has one). I have a personalized license plate and think it is a great way to express something significant to your life, something funny for someone to enjoy, or something that a police officer may get a kick out of (especially when writing a ticket). However, there are some people that find something like this a waste of money, unnecessary, or just a plain waste of time. What is your take?

I would say "That's why they call them personalized plates." To each his or her own. Some can be quite amusing. It is nice to read some of the creative plates. They relieve the boredom of everyday driving. One really cute one I saw on a fairly new cadillac that described the joy of overcoming their struggle read "PO NO MO."

See, they are enjoyable and something like that license plate mentioned could be both funny and inspirational to those reading it.

When I see vanity plates, there is never a time that I don't get some kind of a kick out of them. However, I don't think that I would ever have one for myself. First off, I couldn't think of anything really catchy that I would want my license plate to say. Then there is the fact that I don't want to pay the additional fees that are attached to having a vanity plate. I know that they are far more expensive than regular registration on a car and our regular registration is $21 per year plus taxes.

I am seriously impressed with the cost of your regular plates. It does not help here that they are a "hot item." They say the more that is purchased, the lower the price...but it seems that has reversed on us. It is about $50 for renewals here and $70 for vanity. Some carry fees that have to be paid for every time you re-register, others have a one time. I wish I lived where you did for $21 registration fees.
