How do you handle the steering wheel while driving?

Do you use two hands, one hand, one finger, or no hands(lol)? Me I have done all of that but most of the times, I only use one hand, and my other hand is holding the gear shift. I use two hands when I was just started to learn driving, then when I am already comfortable, I only use one hand, then sometimes, I even just use one finger(my thumb), of course I still have a good control. Sometimes I have also tried to use no hands for seconds, just to know if my wheels are balanced. Because it should not supposed to curve to the left or right or else your wheels are not balanced so you can have it balanced in a car services shop. But most of the times, I am comfortable driving using only one hand in holding the steering wheel. How about you, how do you handle the steering wheel while driving?

Yes, it will be more advisable for you to use both hands to have a better control. And yes, you have to make your gripping tight. Thank you for your response and always drive safely.

It is always one hand on the wheel and the other on the gear shift.Well I use both the hands involuntarily as I negotiate the bends.

I tend to use both hands when I drive. I also use one hand from time to time, but I usually only do that when I'm not going very fast or there's no one else on the road. I still prefer to use both hands though as I feel more at control behind the wheel this way, even after all these years of driving. Happy mylotting!

Oh I just steer with my knees, that way I can pick my nose or whatever.... But seriously, there is always at least one hand on the wheel pretty much, usually two. On the rare occasion when I need both hands for something, I make sure I'm on a nice straight road and then I actually can steer with my knee for a short period. I don't recommend it though...

I doubt Id be able to pass a driving test again! I fell into the habit of one hand driving with the other on the gear shift, crossing arms amnd even occasionally use a couple of fingers to turn the wheel! So far I havent driven no hands though!!

Mostly I use one hand to steer the car and have done for years. I know they say in the driving test that you should always keeps two hands on the steering wheel, but in my mind, this can lead to tension and stress whilst driving and when a driver is stressed he is more likely to make mistakes. A driver who is relaxed can remain more alert. I am a great believer in being relaxed whilst driving, which means my mind is more focused. _Derek
