I am 19 years old, weighing only 87 lbs. and no, I am not anorexic. I am petite though. I would really love to gain weight.. at least 5 pounds. I took almost all vitamins and food supplement I could find in the drug store but I still remain lower than 90 lbs. I wish to be at least 97 lbs. What do you think should I do?

The first thing to do is to know your height AND weight. From that you can calculate your Body Mass Index, Staying within the limits of that is a good guide to what your ideal weight should be. It's very likely that you are already at the lower end of what is considered healthy and therefore you have no need to worry. So long as you eat a healthy, balanced diet and are active and don't feel lethargic, it's very likely that you can rejoice in being healthy and especially in who you are as an individual. Most people are not so much worried about whether they are too fat or too thin as being worried about whether other people may think them too fat or too thin. 'Other people' is far too much of a generalisation. People really love us for who we are - our personalities - not for how we look. Striving to be a nice, genuine person is MUCH more effective and less stressful than aching to be a certain weight!

Eat a lot of fruits and vegetables, a lot of meat, nuts and seeds, and you should get to your natural weight soon. Also, drink some lemon water or tea before eating, it will make you hungrier.

Eat 6 meals a day, each meal containing at leas 20 grams of protein. Try working out as well, it will open your appetite for food.

i guess your body is ectomorph type (a type of body that has fast metabolic) the only way to gain weight is proper and healthy diet, when we say diet it doesn't mean starvation, diet is selecting the food that you eat, how frequent and how much, as generally speaking, to gain weight you need: 1. eat 6 or 7 times a day 2. with time spacing of 2 or 3 hours 3. the size or the amount of your meal is like the size of your fist (1 cup) which covers all the macro-nutrients (complex carbs, protein and essential fatty acids) 4. your every meal should consist of 50% complex carbs, 40% of protein with less fat and 10% essential fatty acids like 2-3 tbsp. of extra virgin olive oil, fish oil/omega 3 or canola oil) 5. limit intake of high sugar and carbonated water 6. eat fruits during the day, limit during evening ..this will give you descent wight gain with minimal fat in your belly..ooh by the way don't forget to have regular cardi-exercise 2 or 3 times a week of 20-30 min. hope this will help..have a nice day! have tons of motivation in your mind, sleep early so you will not be slacker, drink coffee before doing workout, if your are motivated you can easily shake off your laziness..

The most important thing you should know is you only can gain weight if 'calories in' is greater than 'calories out'. Every person differs in calories needed to maintain its body function, depends on several things such as age, body type/metabolism, and activity rate. Try to compute your calories need and estimate how much food you must take to gain weight. If necessary, you can take 3-5 meal a day, just to make sure you get enough food. To speed up your process in gaining weight : eat healthy food, sleep well and do resistance training
