Difference of Private and Public Schools

Philippines

They say that education is better in private schools compared to public schools. Private schools are not over populated while sometimes public schools has 50 plus students in just one classroom. Facilities in private schools are even better than of the public schools and they also said that rules and regulations in private schools are strictly implemented compared to public schools. Because of these comparisons, do you believe that students from private schools are more knowledgeable or have higher education than of the students studying in the public schools?

i was from a private school ever since kindergarten and i can say that the education given is better than in the public base from what i had observe from my neighbors and cousins. maybe because we pay more to the school so the school could provide us with the best facilities. it is so true that rules and regulations are more implemented in private schools than in the public schools. in your question whether students from private school are more knowledgeable or have higher than the students from the public schools, in a way i would agree because there are areas that the public schools fail to teach and there are additional education private schools provide to the students. but we should put down those people going to the public schools because i believe there are students from the public schools that are quite intelligent than those in the private schools.

That's very true about education here in the Philippines. I know a lot of students specially parent wish to study/send their kids in private schools but unfortunately, they cannot afford the high fees so they would rather choose to go to public schools than have no education at all. There are a lot of intelligent students in public schools but the problem is, the school lack facilities for these students to show more of what they have. Let's say for example computers. In private schools, each of the student has a computer during computer class while in public schools, one computer is shared by two or even three students. And sometimes the computer they use is broken. I hope, education in public schools here in the Philippines would be given priority by the government and not just corrupting the nation.

school is like a second home for our children. if you're talking about the situation in the Philippines, then the differences are really vivid. it isn't true that children from public schools can't get along with what private school students can do or learn. it's just a matter of environment. if they could be given a larger, decongested, and well ventilated room, students from public schools will be more eager to learn. this is what corruption can do.

You're hundred percent right. Public and private schools here in our country has a big difference and it's so sad that all politicians promise a better and free education during campaign period but during their term, all those promises were just put aside.

Hi cheatedaphrodite I can say only one thing any school either private and public shcols it depends on the child how fast can he grasp while the teacher is teaching or how clever the child is. But now-a-days education has become business and every one who ever is running the school is not worried about the child's education but very much worried how to earn money from the parents of the children. So I don't find any difference between private or public school.

With reference to your main question - there are a lot of difference between a Private and a Public school. Basically, the cost of tuition fees. And to add up those differences that you have mentioned. However, I beg to disagree that students came from private schools are more knowledgeable as compared to those who graduated in public schools. It depends on the student. No matter how good the school is, if the student does not study the lesson properly, still the student will be left behind in the lesson proper. Aside from that, if the student will just merely rely on the school lessons, and will not do a research or further study on the subjects, the thing that the student will learn is insufficient. The thing is, every student should be responsible enough to study further. Since not all learnings are coming from the school alone.

Absolutely right, whether you're in a private or public school, your performance will depend on you.

I think all public schools are private only...do you mean by government school or state school and public schools ..is it...In that case we know may be government schools better but they dont have proper teacher facility . I have seen many in government schools , students dont know any thing as they cant differentiate between minor things in higher level also. While in public schools may be the students are more, as they made education their business , but when they appoint any teacher...that teacher had some knowledge... both type of schools have their own problem in public every season they increase the fee alot...what to do.

Here in the Philippines, we are used to say Public/Government schools not state schools but both are the same since it is administered by the government while private schools are owned by private sectors or institutions. In private schools, you need to do some very detailed sums since you need to pay everything, from tuition fees to miscellaneous to other extra fees including books and uniforms. In public schools, books are provided by the school but you cannot own it since you will need to return those books after the school year ends. Sometimes, the books are shared between two students since the number of books cannot accommodate the huge number of students in one class. This is one problem in public schools here in the Philippines so sometimes

I think there tends to be more pressure on the private schools to perform. If they do a bad job, parents will no longer pay money to send their kids there and the private school will go out of business. Public schools tend to have more latitude in which to operate because they are backed by the government and their "customers" can't choose not to fund the schools. It becomes up to bureaucrats to exert pressure on the poor public schools and try to reform them...this tends to be a slow process. That said, there are really high performing public schools and poor performing private schools, and students can thrive in either environment, especially if they're very motivated and interested in studying on their own.

I was a student of so-called public school. I can say that the levels of education were quite good there. In some situations we could have used a little bit stricter laws, but the discipline was fine overall. I think, that if a person is willing to study and accept the knowledge that is being shared with him, then it doesn't matter whether he/she is studying in a private school or not. I think that private schools are for people, who have more money to spend and perhaps it's a some kind of "elite stuff" that displays the level of welfare of some richer people.

No. Most of my cousins graduated in a private school, from grade school to high school. But I can say me and my siblings are much much better than them when we graduated from a public school. There could be other factors but if private schools are better they should at least be at par with us. Me and my sister was able to pass the most prestigious university here in our country. But none of my cousins were able to. Maybe its a case to case basis. But what I'm sure is we really do not know if private school is better than public school. Its really hard to compare them.

YEs, in my country also there are private school and public government funded school.Private school used different syllabus and some do cater syllabus for the local national exams while other cater for international exams depends on the parents objective and preferance.Smaller classes also give better teaching environment however, some of the private school do charge premium prices. Whether the child learn social ills more in public and private i don see the differences both has it bad apples.Facility vice it depends , some public science labs is more equiped than private school in my country but depends on which brands i guess. For me i guess i will sent my child to public schools.

I don't believe that students from private school is more knowledgeable that students in public schools. It's true that in private has a more convenient place to study, but then not all can afford the fee in private school. But then even they are in private the others are not good in academics, and because of more money and allowance they can spent it in bad habits like not going to school, and go in other activities. Due to poverty most of students study in public, and even there has lot students in one class room that teacher can see who are the knowledgeable and who needs some attentions and help to their study. In public because of having the many students, every one can enter especially the intelligent one. As i was remember when I was in high school we had an inter academics competition, "Quiz Bee" and the winners is always get by the students from the public school. :)

Yeah, I also knew several students who are studying in public schools do better compared to students studying in private schools. I guess they are more challenged because of life's poverty so they really study hard.

Lamentably here in Argentina it is like that the pupils of the private schools receive better education and better facilities, and as the years went by it is noticing one as the level of the education is levelled for below. This is lamentable, the public schools work as dining rooms and nothing mas. A veguenza thanks to our political darlings.

hi cheatedaphrodite, there is no doubt that there are more better facilities in the private schools that is the reason , they demand more fees from the students. Where as coming to the knowledge, there are dedicated teachers who teaches very well than in the private schools and they are dedicated to there teaching profession and also i find many students who scored good marks without having the facilities like in private schools so in my view it depends upon the students who shows interest towards there studies and also there should be good motivation between the teachers and students as well.

We'll I'm from public schools and it's true that the class number really exceeds those of the privates but still it depends on the teaching techniques of the teachers, besides you go to school not of the facilities or anything but of the things you would learn and be able to use in the future.

The ratio of students in a class differs for public and private school. For public, the ratio is usually 40 is to 1 teacher while in private schools its 1 is to 20 for example. But then again, it really depends on the student on how well they absorb or learn what the teacher is teaching. There are some public school students who excel because they have that eagerness to learn and be someone when they grow up. While there are some private school students who tend to relax because they know they do not have any problems in getting enrolled or they aren't as strong willed. But then again it really depends on the child and how they were raised up.

I think you mean the difference between State and Public School- private school IS public school :) I find that private schools are full of snobs who have money to burn, it doesn't mean the students at the shcool are cleverer or better behaved than kids in a state school! I don't think it should be case of "I have 5 grand to throw away a year" it should be "I passed this exam to get in this school". My brother applied for a grammar school- he had to pass an exam to get into the school...but if my parents had had thousands of pounds, they could have paid for him to go without the exam!!!!

If you are in England, Public Schools are owned by Private Sector and Private Schools are owned by Public Sector. Crazy, yes. I have to disagree that Private school students are more knowledgeable than public school students. I studied in public school and I think I turned out fine. And there are lots of people that I think are more stupid than me (not to blow my own horns) who are schooled in private schools. In some way, public schools are better because you get to meet all sorts of people. In private school, however, you are limited to only the rich who can afford it.

I've been to both. they are both different. Both can be better at different things. Personally i didn't do as well in the Private school and i did better in state school. I learn better with competition and comparison. I went to a private school for the very end of my education (free place) and got put in very small classes, even one-to-one lessons. For the people in my year with special needs this really helped them tailor their education and achieve great things. I'm a standard student and so it wasn't so useful. We did have good facilities but it was a small school and my state school did have better equipment for some things, though not many, easier to justify when there is 200+ in a year not less than 50. I always found it difficult to accept some of the students who were spoilt brats, no nice way of putting that. But most private schools i've been into have had a great level of teaching, a freedom to teach as they wish and not how they are told to, and generally have great results.
