Do You Miss Texting?

Aaah, texting! It seems so long ago that we all used to do it on a regular basis lol. Then came Facebook and other Social Networking Sites and texting just doesn't seem as popular anymore...or is it? You see, I don't have a mobile phone at present (shock, horror) but I don't have a Facebook account either..so what is one to do when one acquires a new mobile phone...stare at it? By the way, I'm not actually getting a new mobile phone, just talking metaphorically..er, I think.

Well, I mostly use my phone to make phone calls. lol But it is amazing. Who would have thought 20 years ago that your phone would also be a camera, an alarm clock, a calculator, a computer, etc. etc. etc. I still text occasionally, but it can be really annoying sometimes.

Yeah, they were like bricks, and now people would be embarrassed to be seen with one! Thanks for the BR. :-)

I know, they are like mini-computers aren't they? The thing is, the pace of change is what's mind-boggling. About 10 years ago mobiles were like bricks, now you don't even see them when they're up against someone's ear, which is strange in itself!

I still text, I Facebook, Twitter and all the rest of it, but never for trivial reasons and I do not have the internet on my phone. I do not text very often. Perhaps a couple of times a week. Sometimes I find it quicker and easier just to call someone than to text back and forth.

Speaking to someone is always better than the impersonal approach. Whenever I ring Mum it can be an hour and a half before the handset is back in its base. Good job there are rechargeable batteries in there!

Yeah i miss texting. My current mobile plan is like its 1 paise for 1 sec. SMS is 50 paise per sms.So i prefer just calling them and tell them what i want to convey..

I don't really understand your currency my friend but that sounds expensive to me, am I right? It used to be like that here in the UK but now all the companies compete with one another so there are some good deals to be had, especially with contract phones. Pity I can't take advantage of them at the moment but I'm prepared to wait.

I still text quite a lot because it is so mobile. But I have a confession here...There is a site that you can sign up to here in the uk called cardboardfish.co.uk - From there you can text anybody, using the bigger keyboard of the computer and at the moment, the charges for each text is 3.9 pence. I think that is cheaper than if I send text from my phone. I can also get replies coming back to my phone or computer whatever I prefer.. _Derek

Wow, that's cool! There are lots of offers on at T-Mobile (the company I used to be with) and it's so annoying as - if you have a contract there is now unlimited internet access. This is probably due to the explosion of Facebook in the last couple of years. It is amazing how well I cope without one though...and I'm in the house a lot anyway so use the trusted landline (and internet phone to ring Mum for nowt after 6pm) so at least I'm not deprived lol.

I have a mobile phone and other than getting charged up once a week it never gets used, it's more of a safety thing for when out and about. But in a strange way I don't mind that no one calls me on it or texts me, there is an amazing freedom when you basically know that no one will suddenly call or text you, no more being shackled to being reachable 24/7. I use to hate texting when I did use to use a mobile all the time as I could never get to grips with all the text speak. As for facebook well that's never floated my boat either.

Well I was fortunate enough to text people who weren't obsessed with text speak either...and I can't understand why Facebook has become the new "texting" as I know people who are hooked on it...just for the sake of it. I really don't like following the in-crowd. I used to wear leggings when they weren't in fashion lol.

Days do not passed without me sending at least 1 text message. Its in my system now and its hard to remove. Texting is the most convenient way for me to talk to my family. They are far from me. Texting is the fastest way to communicate with them.

Well, I am in England and used to text someone in Australia where the time difference is immense. It never fails the amaze me how quickly we can receive texts from countries so far away. I once spoke to the person on the phone as well and the clarity was amazing. The world has definitely shrunk! Glad to know that you can text your family.

I do not text, do not have a phone capable of it, and I would be too slow, because I would not be able to bring myself to do text speak. I do not do Facebook either. Just not for me. I have enough of my business out there online as it is.

I know what you mean about text speak. I tried not to shorten too many words if I could help it as English Language used to be my strongest subject at school. I certainly wasn't going to throw away all that knowledge saving a few pence shortening messages.

Well my first phone was ace because it lit up in the dark (fancy that) lol. Therefore I could take it to bed with me. Haha! How embarrassing admitting that!

Hi Janey... It is really shocking that you don't use cell phone.. For me, it has become life.. My world will stop, practically speaking, if my cell phone isn't with me.. I still do texting... All my friends do.. Here in India, it is still the most convenient and the cheapest way to convey things ... Get a new phone Miss and don't miss upon the wonderful ways of texting... Have a Happy Sunday!!!

Believe me, if I had the money I would definitely get another mobile phone as there are bargains to be had. Isn't that so typical? If I was working there would be no offers on at all, I'm sure!

Hard to say that a cell phone is really a phone because i don't even hold it up to my eat anymore to talk on it LOL. I use my cell phone to text unless im driving i will call and use it up to my ear but that is barely ever anymore. I don't know how you live with out a phone or even a facebook page, i have both and constantly check my cell phone and also check my facebook numerous amounts in a day. I use my facebook page to contact people and write them things i need to tell them.

Well I suppose I'm old-fashioned lol. Mind you, I did have a spell a few years ago of being obsessed with texting..to the point where I'd take my phone into the ladies at work and reply to a text I'd just received. That was before the explosion of Facebook and, no doubt the employer I had at the time now has an upward battle trying to control staff logging onto Facebook in working hours. I did have a Facebook account but I don't really like everyone knowing my business so I cancelled it...and I became addicted to Bejeweled Blitz. Also, there was a nasty case of a child molester grooming a female friend via Facebook who would do "anything" for him. I suppose you can guess the rest. Until Facebook sorts its anonymous members or people who pretend to be someone they are not then I shall continue to stay away from it. I do know people who use it CONSTANTLY though!
