Do you always order more than you can devour?

Today, I took my mom out for lunch, and I guess I ordered too much for both of us today. We went to a Chinese restaurant, and order at least 2 appetizers, and 3 entree just for 2 of us. Maybe that is too much already. But they are my favorites too, so I disregard how much we can actually devour. At the end, my mom whining about how much I wasted on something we both can't finish. I can only take them to go. So, do you usually order something more than you can devour at the restaurant?

Anymore the portions are very large almost any restaurant you go to . So I always end up getting to much. I try to order something I think will taste okay as leftovers so I can eat half later that night.

That is what I do. I start with an empty stomach, and come out with too much that I can't even finish. At end, save the leftover for the next day.

HI natnickeep and swetashah: I think that when we feel empty is easier to make these mistakes because we think we are so hungry that we really need to eat all the things that we ask and that's the mistake. We don't measure the portions according to a normal situation but because of how we feel. Thanks for your answer. Have a nice day. ALVARO

nope..i don't really like taking home unfinished foods from the restaurant..also we are not allowed to leave the table unless we finish whatever is on our plate..my mom always reminds us eversince we were little that we are not suppose to waste any food since there's a lot of kids who doesn't have any money to buy even their own food..so it's kind of a habit..we only order foods we know we can finish..

Hi, swetashah. When I eat out and I get the buffet, I always pile more than enough of food on my plate. So, I will always be so full where I can't finish it. It is really silly sometimes. I wished that most diners allowed doggy bags.

As much as possible, I try to estimate the amount of food that I can consume so as to prevent any leftovers.

go big or go home! No but its hard not to order more than you can chew! The bigger the plate the better the price!

I actually do this all the time. I like having something I can save for later if I get hungry or even the next day. Especially if I'm ordering something I've been craving for a long time!

Hello swetashah and welcome to myLot. It all depends on where we are eating. Most restaurants only have big orders so it's almost impossible to get small servings. so I always get a to go box. I don't mind left overs. I really should start ordering off the kids menu. They are really the right size. The only thing is the kids menu is usually chicken tender and hamburgers and we go the the restaurants to get a real meal. It is much easier to get the right size meals at the fast food spots.

I try not to order more than I can eat unless I plan on taking some of it home with me. I don't like to waste food and I hate it when I see others doing so. My eyes do sometimes seem bigger than my stomach though.

That's just part of the treat of going out for a meal. You always order more than you can eat, and take the leftovers home so you can enjoy part of that meal later. I always order more than I think I can eat, because I can't cook to save my life, so I'll let the cooks in the restaurant do it for me and I'll have a meal for later too.

Hi swetashah: In my case it happends just the oposite. I make my order and after eating what I ask, I can continue eating even if I'm satisfied. I am sure this is a disorder and I also think this is due to my anxiety. I'm trying to fight agains this because it's not right. Thanks for asking us this question. Have a nice day. ALVARO

I don't do this all the time, but on the rare times that I do, I end up having a stomachache or vomiting too much food. There was a time when my bf and I ordered more than we can devour and ended up vomiting the excess food that out stomachs cannot handle anymore. We swore never order more than we can devour.

Don't eat what you order?! That is crazy, haha. I force myself to eat it all up, because I know I would regret it if I didn't. I love delicious foods. My all time record eating in one sitting is as follows-4 cheeseburgers,3 onion rings, and 2 large sodas, eaten in under 1 hour. I did not feel to great afterwards, but the taste was well worth it.

It happens from time to time, but not on a regular basis or anything. Sometimes I might be really hungry when I get there, or something like that, and then it is very easy to overestimate your own capabilities, I think. At least for me! So I wouldn't feel too bad about it, it happens to everyone!
