in 2 years time i plan to emigrate with my family to new zealand. it's a humungous step, and i'm doin all my homework about where we will be going to. it's a huge step and the kids can't wait to go! i will miss my dearest friends if,as and when i do go, but hell what a holiday they can have! do you know anyone who has taken such a plunge - for better or worse - and what would you honestly do if you were given the chance for a fresh start? x

I have actually done it myself (I didn't move to New Zealand though!) and I think it was a great thing to do! The best advice I can give you is to be beware of the fact that such a big change will be difficult for the first year. You will miss certain things, find it hard to get used to certain things, and so on, but it does get much easier after the first year (could even be quicker in your case, because I am assuming you do not need to learn a new language?) Good luck with the emigration, I think you are going to a great country!

Hi Wendie, It is a huge step but something that is in your heart that you want to do, it is not an overnight decision but I agree a massive step. You have been working towards it on all levels with extra education etc for skills to be used once there. I admire what you are trying to achieve and I for one will be one of those missing you but also looking forward to a great warm welcoming holiday home lol. I personally cannot see myself moving to another country but I did make a fresh start in 2000 when I left friends behind to start again in Devon, not another country only a 3 1/2 hour drive but to begin with didn't know anyone but have got to keep the majority of my old friends who still visit regularly and also make some lovely new ones, yourself included there. For me the move away was the best move I ever made. My mother emmigrated to Spain the same year and hasn't looked back, her health is so much better in the heat and again she has made some wonderful new friends both English and Spainish and a better quality of life. Good luck with this venture. Love and huggles. Ellie :D

Now Wendie that would be one big party, do you know the Lot has 207,518 members!!! That would fill a few houses lol. Yes I hope it will help Rhi's health, from the people that I do who have moved abroad especially to a warmer climate have always had better healtheven my fathers recovery from cancer was helped by being in Thailand for 6 months, stress free, sunshine etc. Huggles. Actually, we're doing that very thing right now. We're emptying out our house and moving across the country to Las Vegas, Nevada, where my husband's brother lives. He's offered to put us up until we get established. It's a wonderful opportunity to get out of this rut we're in and have some adventures!

What a wonderful thing, how exciting. I would be doing all icould to find out about the new country. Get maps, look on the internet, see if there is a way to become a pen pal, or internet pal in the local you will be going to.

My Mum has been talking of emigrating from the UK to Portugal, but she won't while her mother (my Grabdma) is alive, as she is 93 next month and they wouldn't want to leave her on her own. As for me, I can't ever see a time when I would want to live in another country. I am very happy being in England.
